Baja Mexico: Magdalena Bay, Baja Sur & East Cape.

Capt. Gary Graham
August 29, 2001
Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., Aug. 29, 2001

TEMPERATURES: High of 98 with a low of 80. Light winds and partly cloudy.

STRIPED MARLIN - A few; and the sailfish action has slowed considerably.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - We're finding lots of smaller fish in front of La Ribera.

DORADO - There's great fishing 10 miles outside the lighthouse.

ROOSTERFISH - Plenty of smaller fish along the shore.

JACK CREVALLE - La Ribera to the lighthouse seems to be the best area.

BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few scattered outside of La Ribera.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Rock structure on any of the points producing fair

catches.

.. OFFSHORE: Tuna and dorado together with a few billfish are providing the

best action.

.. INSHORE: The areas in front of Buenavista Beach Resort and Rancho Leonero

continue to produce good catches of roosterfish, jacks and pompano.

.. BEACH: Try any of the beaches from Rancho Leonero to Punta Colorado . . .

wherever the bait is hanging out is where you want to be.

.. QUICK COMMENT - Dave Cooper, visiting us from Denver, has had a great week

catching lots of dorado, tuna and roosterfish on Mosca 1.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., Aug. 29, 2001

Temperatures: 84-degree high; low 73. We're seeing both wind and rain.

MARLIN - Continue to receive good reports of fish near the Thetis Bank.

DORADO - Kelp paddies or a few of the shark buoys produced good catches.

TUNA - Seven to eight miles northwest of the Thetis is the best bet.

YELLOWTAIL - Thetis bank producing the best catches.

CORVINA - A few near the bridge and up by the power plant.

SNOOK - Not much activity this week.

SIERRA - Almejas Bay produced fair catches earlier in the week.

PARGO & GROUPER - Punta Redonda produced a few fish tight to the shoreline.

.. QUICK COMMENT - Offshore action continued to draw most of the attention

early this week. With Hurricane Flossie meandering up the Baja Coast, I

suspect most of the boats will be staying pretty close to home. Puerto

Cancun was the hot spot for sierra over the weekend. And, are you ready for

this? There were

quite a few small roosterfish to eight pounds mixed in with them. This is

the second time in the last few months that I have had reports of

roosterfish. The other time was back in June along the sand beach at Santa

Maria Bay.
