Capt. Gary Graham
September 4, 2001
Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., Sept. 5, 2001

TEMPERATURES: High of 94 with a low of 79. Light winds and few clouds.

STRIPED MARLIN - Slower than one would expect for this time of the year.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Plenty of fish from La Ribera to Cabo Pulmo.

DORADO - Plenty of schoolies close to shore.

ROOSTERFISH - Rooster alley to Punta Arena producing good action.

JACK CREVALLE - La Ribera to the Punta Arena seems to be the best area.

BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few scattered outside of La Ribera.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - The reef in front of Rancho Leonero producing well.

.. OFFSHORE: Tuna and dorado producing the best action for offshore fleet.

.. INSHORE: Plenty of action all the way to outside of Cabo Pulmo.

.. BEACH: Early morning and late afternoon provided the best action with the

beach in front of La Ribera being the best place to be.

.. QUICK COMMENT - I am writing this report after all the fish counts are in

on Tues. night so that we can fly out early tomorrow for the Fly Tackle

Retailers Exposition in Salt Lake City, Sept. 6-8. We will be introducing my

latest book, The No Nonsense Guide to Fly Fishing Magdalena Bay at the show.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., Sept. 5, 2001

Temperatures: 84-degree high; low 73. Weather has settled down.

MARLIN - You guessed it . . . the Thetis Bank is the best bet.

DORADO - Check out the shark buoys 15 to 20 miles west of the entrada.

TUNA - Seem to be hanging around the Thetis Bank area.

YELLOWTAIL - The best reports are from the Thetis Bank area.

CORVINA - Take your pick: Devil's Curve or the Bridge.

SNOOK - Pretty quiet this week.

SIERRA - A few here and there.

PARGO & GROUPER - Up above Lopez Mateos still sounds the best.

.. QUICK COMMENT - Sounds like the best action was on the outside up toward

the Thetis Bank. Water temperatures have definitely come up.
