Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS

Sat., Feb. 02, 2002

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: Wind and rain with unusually cold temperatures kept everyone

close to home trying to stay dry and warm. Hopefully the coyote, oops, I

mean groundhog, won’t see his shadow and the bad weather will be over.

Yvonne and I have two more days at the International Sportsman's Exposition

(ISE) Show, today and tomorrow. We will be in booth 1430, so stop by and

say hello if you are anywhere in the Bay Area.

.. OFFSHORE: Pretty tough all week.

.. INSHORE: If you can get out, your chances are good for sierra, dorado and

small tuna.

.. BEACH: There was a rumor of a few yellowtail in front of Palmas de Cortez.

AIR & SEA: With a low of 41 night before last everyone is digging through

closets looking for heavy jackets.

BILLFISH - Pretty dismal.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Fair up at Punta Pescadero.

DORADO - Shark buoys the best.

ROOSTERFISH - Rough conditions slowed the action down.

JACK CREVALLE – Spotty.

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few here and there.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Good time to find some shelter from the wind and fish

the structure.

SIERRA - Best bite in several years when the wind quits.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., Feb. 02, 2002

.. IN GENERAL: Three days of cold conditions kept everyone in. Yesterday, the

weather cleared and the entrada produced a few yellowtail. Up in the

esteros, the best action was smaller corvina. Whale watching is beginning to

pick up with one boat reporting four mothers with new babies as well as

other whales.

AIR & SEA: 74 - 61 with some rain.

DORADO - Not this week.

TUNA - Nobody out looking for them.

YELLOWTAIL - A few down deep.

CORVINA - Still plenty to play with.

SNOOK - Cold weather put them down

HALIBUT - A few in the flats at the entrance of some of the channels.

SIERRA - Try Belcher's near the piling or on the current rips.
