Baja Mexico: Magdalena Bay, Baja Sur & East Cape.

Capt. Gary Graham
February 9, 2002
Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS

Sat., Feb. 09, 2002

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: The weather has cleared up as far as the cloudy skies, but the

wind is still a problem. It has been very windy the last few days. The

wind has been less in the morning, but is kicking by about 10. The temps

have risen slightly to 59 - 73.

.. OFFSHORE: Several boats did make it out including one of our clients,

Wister Smith, from Scottsboro, Ala., who caught a rooster and sierra before

the wind came rolling in by mid-morning. A couple of other boats fishing up

toward Punta Pescadero did pretty well catching a handful of dorado

.. INSHORE: A few dorado and sierra and roosterfish closer to shore.

.. BEACH: Wind waves continue to hamper fishing from the beach.

AIR & SEA: Finally, a few warmer days.

BILLFISH - No one targeted them this week.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Slow.

DORADO - Not bad for February if the wind backs off.

ROOSTERFISH - They are still here.

JACK CREVALLE - Wait till the wind quits.

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Not targeted this week.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Structure not a bad bet. With all the wind, find a

sheltered point up toward Punta Pescadero and try one of your favorite

poppers or Clouser.

SIERRA - Still the best action at East Cape.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., Feb. 09, 2002

.. IN GENERAL: With more and more whales arriving every day, the focus this

week has been on the whale watching more than the fishing.

AIR & SEA: 71 - 62 with some scattered clouds and wind in the afternoon.

YELLOWTAIL - Best bet is out at the entrada.

CORVINA - Good action up in the esteros, mostly smaller fish to three pounds

with an occasional lunker showing up.

SNOOK - Not wide open, but good enough to keep your attention.

HALIBUT - Slow retrieved Clouser on a sandy bottom producing good action.

SIERRA - The birds will point the way and don't forget wire bite tippet.
