Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report
EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
IN GENERAL: Our days since last Wed. consist of nailing skipjack by the
bucket full, enough sierra to feed everyone in Los Barriles cevice on Easter
Sunday, and roosterfish sucking up poppers like the grandkids grabbing
Easter baskets. There’s no doubt it’s going to continue and should make
this the most action-packed Easter in recent memory. As if that isn’t
enough, the pargo are on the chew in front of Rancho Leonero. All of that on
a Full Moon. Go figure!
One more thing: Guest Bob Kendall, Spokane, Wash., told our guide Jeff
DeBrown that his goal on a inshore trip on Thurs. was to catch a roosterfish
and a dorado on a fly. Well, both lifetime species boxes were ticked in
short order with the rooster coming five minutes after he started fishing.
The dorado came a little later in the day. Good going to both the guide and
Bob.
AIR & SEA:

Sea Temps: 68 - 72 degrees
. OFFSHORE: Still that wad of fish 65 miles off, but that is a lot of
diesel, baby.
. INSHORE: Even a few dorado close to shore.
. BEACH: Best bet is in front of Punta Colorada.
BILLFISH - A few reported, but not very aggressive
YELLOWFIN TUNA - Not yet.
DORADO - Mostly singles in the 20-pounds and under range.
ROOSTERFISH - By far the best week this year, with several of our trips in
double digits. Somefish up to 17 pounds.
JACK CREVALLE - Of all the species this is the slowest right now.
BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few miles off of Punta Arena you’ll find
all you want.
PARGO AND CABRILLA - Rock structure is the best bet.
SIERRA - Great action. Wire leaders are recommended.

IN GENERAL: Hard to tell which has had the most impact this week. Very windy
conditions persisted most of the week and that coupled with the traditional
Easter week holiday has brought fishing to a standstill. With so much rest
this week, stand by for an action-packed report next time.
AIR & SEA: Fair weather with 71-64 temps and lots of wind.
YELLOWTAIL - Last action reported was at the entrada down deep.
CORVINA - Devil's Curve and the Bridge are holding some smaller fish.
SNOOK – Mario’s Spot would be a good spot to check.
HALIBUT - Sandy beaches with a chartreuse Clouser a good bet.
SIERRA - Still no action
