EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
IN GENERAL: Those who came to East Cape to celebrate the Fourth werent disappointed. The fishing provided plenty of fireworks and the yellowfin tuna even decided to come to the party. Plenty of football-sized tuna showed up and they stayed up on the surface long enough to allow our clients to sight-cast to the critters until their arms got tired. The quality roosters are inshore; close enough to the beach to take shots at with the fly. The only negative is the shortage of Sardinia. They seem to have been replaced by large schools of mullet. Water temperatures are beginning to warm back up again, and it is shaping up to be a Barnburner Summer AND all the hotels are offering great summer specials to boot.

AIR & SEA - Hazy conditions with little
wind in the morning but some wind in the afternoons

. OFFSHORE: There seems to be some action regardless of the direction you head out. Up toward the 88, reports of large dorado and marlin have drawn part of the fleet in that direction and down to the East there seems to be another concentration of the same. This is a good thing since it tends to spread the hotel fleets out
. INSHORE: Still some quality dorado being found near the hotels. There are even a few near buoy lines where the hotel boats anchor in front of the hotels. Quality Roosterfish are strung out from La Capilla all the way to Punta Arena.
BEACH: There is a good show along Rooster Alley for the quality roosters and jacks: there are plenty of shots but as usual you have to work at it to get the takes.
BILLFISH Once you get outside the dirty water the fishing has been good
YELLOWFIN TUNA - Footballs arrive in force and we hope the bigger brothers are right behind them
DORADO Lots of free swimmers and a few under the shark buoys at Punta Pescadero.
ROOSTERFISH What has been a banner year just keeps on going.
JACK CREVALLE Still plenty chasing the huge schools of mullet near shore.
BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK No one had much time for them this week.
PARGO AND CABRILLA Rock reefs are your best bet right now..
SIERRA Mostly incidental catch right now. If your fly disappears inshore, it is probably a sierra

IN GENERAL: Up in the Esteros the water appears to be warming as well, particularly in the Southern portion of the bay. Alemejas Bay is definitely the best bet this week. Offshore the tuna are still out on a 200 to 210 heading from the Entrada. While the actual counts are deceptively low up in the Esteros you have to consider the number of fish being lost.
AIR & SEA: Some high clouds with light winds
Air Temperature 67 - 76
Water Temperature 60 - 72
YELLOWTAIL Pretty quiet
CORVINA Devils curve, the bridge, and the pier all produced reasonable catches this week.
SNOOK Good show on fish to fifteen pounds and they are a sucker for a chartreuse Deepdiver.
HALIBUT - Most of the sandy beaches have a few.
SIERRA - Quiet.
