EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: Jerry McKnight and his son Cole, from Bakersfield, Calif., had fair to great action over the past several days. It took them a while to figure out the system, but on their last day on Tues. (7/16) they had 11 roosters, 11 jacks, a pompano, 3 sierra, 5 dorado and 2 large skipjack. Ed Kunze, their Baja on the Fly guide, reported that they didn't go more 15 minutes without a hookup.

AIR & SEA - Some high clouds and light breezes in the p.m.

Hi 100°

Lo 76°

Wind: N /9 mph

Humidity: 55%

Dewpoint: 69°

Visibility: 15

Water Temps 79 - 84

OFFSHORE: Water temps seem to be settling down and billfish action is on the upswing. There’s a good show of larger dorado; while the tuna are still tough to score on.

INSHORE: Shark buoys outside of Punta Pescadero are still a good bet as is anything floating. The larger skipjack returned and there was a good show of jacks, roosters, pompano and the toothy sierra.

BEACH: Light pressure this week with most of our clients opting for inshore. Still seeing large schools of pompano and they are a sucker for a small Clouser. Still large schools of mullet attracting the roosters and jacks close to shore.

BILLFISH - Patience pays off. You just have to put in your time.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Not as much action this week.

DORADO - Lots of free swimmers and some under the shark buoys at Punta

Pescadero.

ROOSTERFISH - Plenty to 10 pounds, fewer larger ones.

JACK CREVALLE - A few large schools close to Punta Colorada.

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few to 10 pounds.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Rock reefs are your best bet right now.

SIERRA - Punta Colorada bay produced good action this week.

CORVINA - Both the pier and the bridge produced good action this week.

HALIBUT - Most of the sandy beaches have a few.

SIERRA - Finally a few at Belchers on the current rips.
