REPORT FROM GARY GRAHAM'S BAJA ON THE FLY:

EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: Flat calm, no wind now. That doesn’t sound like the September everyone talks about but that’s how it is. Inshore continues to be the hot deal for the flyrodder. Offshore is steady fishing for billfish, tuna, and dorado if you don’t mind a long ride to get to them. Stick to the inshore or beach and you won’t be disappointed.

AIR & SEA – Pleasant and we didn’t even need air conditioning for the last couple of nights.

. OFFSHORE: Regardless of what you target, figure an hour and a half ride to get to the zone.

. INSHORE: Still plenty of action from Rancho Leonero to Punta Arena.

. BEACH: Try it at gray light in front of your hotel - then have breakfast.

BILLFISH - Be ready to run 30 miles to get to where they are.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Pretty good for the footballs, but only a few bigger ones.

DORADO - Lots of single cruisers and a few schoolies around the mooring

buoys in front of the hotels.

ROOSTERFISH – Plenty of smaller ones close to shore and the larger ones within a mile of shore at the color line.

JACK CREVALLE – Some toads around the bait receivers at La Ribera, smaller fish feeding on sardina between Scott Glenn’s house and La Ribera.

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK – Look for the schools feeding on the surface, then shut down up-wind and drift into the school.

PARGO AND CABRILLA – Can’t believe the number of quality fish around right now.

SIERRA - Bait receivers in front of La Ribera have a few mixed in with

jacks, ladyfish, pompano and triggerfish.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: After holding our breath for the last few days the tropical depression went away and the fishing improved somewhat. Plenty of dorado outside and it sounds like more marlin are either moving into or through the area this week. The esteros were decent this week with a few snook to ten pounds topping the catch report.

CORVINA – Pier and Bridge provided the best action earlier in the week.
