EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: Schoolie dorado have shown up in good numbers, although it is

still a hit-or-miss proposition. One day is good and the next only so-so.

Sailfish are still the best bet for billfish anglers. Back inshore there

have been lots of skipjack. Still a few quality roosters being taken as

well. We’re seeing very few football-sized yellowfin tuna.

AIR & SEA - By Sun. (10/6) the north wind had backed off and we were back

to the normal afternoon breezes out of the east.

Temperature 91° F / 75° F

Humidity 83%

Wind Calm

Water Temps in the mid- to upper-80's offshore.

· OFFSHORE: Still a few boats making the 35+ mile run for the tuna and

coming back with a few of the bigger variety.

· INSHORE: Schoolie dorado and skipjack provided the best action this

week. Still some quality roosters and a lot of smaller jacks as well.

· BEACH: Most of the action is between Rancho Leonero and La Ribera with

plenty of small jacks, roosters and ladyfish to take shots at.

BILLFISH - Sailfish still the safe bet.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Smaller fish inshore has slowed this week and the bigger

ones under the porpoise keep getting further away.

DORADO - Plenty of schoolies and more boats when they show.

ROOSTERFISH - Find the sardina (look for the pelicans diving) and the

roosters and jacks will be there.

JACK CREVALLE - The beach out in front of RBV produced nice-sized jacks

mid-afternoon.

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Schools throughout Las Palmas Bay all the

way to Las Fralies

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Lots of smaller ones around the sticks at the arroyo

next to Scott Glenn's.

SIERRA - No takers this week.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., Oct. 09, 2002

IN GENERAL: 285 degrees 25 to 35 miles there has been a fair show of

billfish with a few dorado mixed in. Locals report good fishing at Thetis

with a variety of fish making the scene including marlin, dorado, tuna and

wahoo. Back inside the bay, action seemed fairly limited to a few corvina

and snapper.

Water Temperature 72 - 79
