EAST CAPE, MAGDALENA BAY AND ZIHUATANEJO CONDITIONS

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: This is the time of year when the wind is always a factor.

Yesterday (12/03) morning the beach in front of the house was fishable and I

watched one flyrodder land several fish including jacks and ladyfish. This

morning the wind is already up causing more wave action along the beach,

which could only be considered barely fishable. But, tomorrow is another

day.

· OFFSHORE: Billfish, dorado and even a few tuna providing good action

when the boats go out.

· INSHORE: Still a few good-sized roosters cruising along the shore, also

some skipjack and sierra.

· BEACH: The beaches from Rancho Buena Vista to Punta Ignaticio still

have a few schools of sardines which are attracting ladyfish, small

roosters, jacks and even a few pargo.

BILLFISH - A fair show for the few boats, but not enough for the flyrodder .

YELLOWFIN TUNA - Sounds like a few were found up toward Cerralvo Island.

DORADO - Best bet are the shark buoys in front of Punta Pescadero.

ROOSTERFISH – They’re along the beaches from Rancho Buena Vista to La

Ribera.

JACK CREVALLE - You'll find them the same place as the roosters. Look for

the diving pelicans.

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Plenty of schools sighted from La Ribera to

Punta Colorada.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Sounds like there was a wide open bite down below Las

Frailes

SIERRA - Plenty of the toothy mackerel around the bait receivers in front of

La Ribera.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., Dec. 04, 2002

IN GENERAL: Reports were sketchy this week. Outside the pinnacles dorado

and

tuna were found feeding on schools of sardines with few marlin mixed in.

Above the Thetis a few miles there was a few marlin found, but not exactly a

bonanza. I will begin the final 2002 Flyrod Marlin 101 trip tomorrow (12/5)

and will be calling in updates from the boat, so stay tuned. Inshore up in

the mangroves the fly-rodders put the hurt on snook to 20 pounds using a

Greenie (see the recipe at) http://www.bajafly.com Also,

pompano, corvina and grouper up near Devil’s Curve.

I will be going down for our first mangrove trip of 2003, Jan. 3-7. If you

want to join me for a shot at the snook as well as other critters, call

Yvonne at 800 919 2252 or visit http://www.bajafly.com

YELLOWTAIL - Not much action this week because of strong currents

CORVINA - Very consistent throughout the bay.

SNOOK - Find the right spot and the action can be memorable.

HALIBUT - Sand beach straight across from Puerto San Carlos to the west is

holding a few to 10 pounds.

SIERRA - Look for the bird schools in the bay.

ZIHUATANEJO, MAINLAND MEXICO

Wed., Dec. 04, 2002

IN GENERAL: We have two clients who arrived yesterday (12/3) from Reno and

will

begin fishing this morning. We will have a recap of their trip later in the

week. The 84º blue water is only a mile off the beach. Most of the boats are

averaging two to three sailfish a day and one or two dorado in the 20- to

25-pound class. The best fishing areas are from 12 to 16 miles offshore on a

180 to 200º heading.

The roosterfish action is still holding up with three to four fish a day.

The fish are averaging 30- to 40-pounds.

Inshore, the Spanish mackerel are starting to show in decent numbers and

will increase as the water cools a little more.
