EAST CAPE, MAGDALENA BAY AND ZIHUATANEJO CONDITIONS
EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
IN GENERAL: We had several inquiries regarding current International Gamefish records for roosterfish so we have enclosed a link with that information.
http://www.bajafly.com . The Pontoon finally went back into service this week and did so with a splash. Scott and Dolly York, Gardnerville, NV made the first trip this season and Dolly with an epic one hour and forty-five minute battle on ultra light tackle closed out the day with a forty-six pound roosterfish (only nine pounds short of an IGFA record) that she released after a few photos.

Their smiles tell the story: First trip to East Cape, first rooster! Scott, not to be outdone headed out on the beach and caught and released a twenty pounder two days later.

· OFFSHORE: Tuesday produced a good tuna bite some thirty-mile of the Lighthouse.
· INSHORE: Plenty of roosters to play with
· BEACH: From Rooster alley to Bartle Beach is producing enough shots to make your arm hurt!
BILLFISH - A few sailfish starting to show up, blues should not be far behind.
YELLOWFIN TUNA - Mostly footballs, but plenty of them.
DORADO - Big rascals, just not many.
ROOSTERFISH - Plenty of shots for everything from small to you can't be
serious
JACK CREVALLE - More roosters than Toro.
BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Good show outside of La Ribera.
PARGO AND CABRILLA - Night bite the best.
SIERRA - Few grandes out at the Lighthouse.

IN GENERAL: The Entrada produced a mixed bag with catches of white sea bass to twenty pounds along with pargo, grouper and halibut. Several mystery bites broke everything from 20-80 lb string. Sounds like Black Seabass to me. Esteros continue to be consistent with good catches of Leopard Grouper, pargo, corvina and pompano biting Baja Deep Divers.

YELLOWTAIL - With the White Sea Bass making a showing expect to see yellowtail in the same neighborhood.
CORVINA - Devil's Curve, Power Plant and Pier all producing fair catches.
SNOOK - A few bites but nothing landed
HALIBUT - Full speed at the Entrada.
SIERRA - Quiet for now.

IN GENERAL: The excellent fishing is still continuing with not just the
smaller yellowfin tuna and sails, but the big tuna have also come on very
strong. Ed Garvis of Anaheim, Calif- took a 202 pound tuna fishing with
Arturo on the "Whisky III." The panga "Moramay" lost a huge tuna at deep
color when the rod broke. Armando on the panga "Janeth" got a 252-pounder
for his client Nick Borsch visiting all the way from Holland. Bruce Scott
from Spokane, Wash., released three sails and caught 8 tuna in the 20-pound
class while fishing with Santiago on the panga "Gitana." Captain Calli on
the "Vamonos II" released 8 sails for his clients in one good day of
fishing. He was working an area 12 miles out of Zihuatanejo Bay on a 210º
heading.
I have been curious for a couple of years about our yellowfin tuna here. I
have seen experienced clients take almost an hour and a half to bring in an
80-pound fish. The gear was correct, etc. The only difference I could see is
the tuna was longer and skinnier than the normal yellowfin.
When Garvis got his 202-pounder this week, it took him 10 hours of tough
stand-up fishing. Ed is an experienced tuna fisherman. Last year he and his
favorite captain, Arturo, teamed up for 4 fish between 210 and 305 pounds. I
did not see this fish, but Ed told me it was almost as long as the as his
300-pounder of last year, but this one kicked his tail. Is this a different
strain of yellowfin tuna?
