EAST CAPE, MAGDALENA BAY AND ZIHUATANEJO CONDITIONS

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: We’re having strange weather for June. It’s flat calm in the

morning with strong cool winds beginning late morning switching from one

direction to another without apparent rhyme or reason. Surprisingly,

fishing continued at a good pace. Jerry Panteleo, from Fresno, Calif., had a

fair day fishing from the pontoon boat, finding some ladyfish and jacks that

cooperated. Olive Clousers did the trick for the ladyfish that act like a

small tarpon.

· OFFSHORE: Tuna, dorado and billfish continued their biting ways.

· INSHORE: A few larger jacks found under the mooring lines in front of

the hotels. Ladyfish and smaller pargo, roosters and a few pompano found

along the sandy beaches.

· BEACH: We’re getting fewer shots on the larger fish this week, but

plenty of smaller roosters, jacks, pargo, ladyfish and pompano found from

Rancho Leonero to Punta Arena.

BILLFISH - Striper count continues to build along with sailfish. Look out,

here come the blues.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - The sashimi spotted during cocktail hour in the hotel bars

went way up this week.

DORADO - Not schooling, but enough to keep it interesting.

ROOSTERFISH - Plenty of small ones to practice on until Bubba comes along.

JACK CREVALLE - Under the boats anchored in front of the hotels. Anybody

got

a float tube?

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - La Ribera to Punta Colorada is the best bet.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Can't believe it, sight casting to pargo on the sandy

beaches.

SIERRA - A few bigger ones along the drop off at Punta Arena.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., June 11, 2003 Report covers the period Sat.-Tues. (6/07-6/10)

IN GENERAL: Wind prevented anyone from getting out to the entrada for the

past few days. The esteros continued to produced good catches of corvina.

Up at Devil’s Curve the grouper, pargo and cabrilla couldn't resist a slowly

retrieved chartreuse Baja Deep Diver.
