EAST CAPE, MAGDALENA BAY AND ZIHUATANEJO CONDITIONS
EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
IN GENERAL: We’re still getting that pesky south wind in the afternoon.
Fortunately, it hasn’t put a damper on the relentless tuna bite that we
have had for the past month which came roaring back after a few days
rest. Billfish and dorado once again took a back seat to the tuna snap.
Once everyone had their fill/limits of tuna they went in search of
billfish and dorado and were greeted with sporadic success. Back
inshore, it was roosters and jacks or jacks and roosters depending on
your point of view including some bubbas that couldn't resist a

· OFFSHORE: Still hankering for tuna? Now's the time.
· INSHORE: Tired of tuna? Try Bubba fishing from La Ribera to Punta Arena. But be careful . . . a jack with an attitude may suck up your fly when you aren't paying attention.
· BEACH: Wind makes it tough, but I swear you get more shots in the wind, time to brush up on your casting!
BILLFISH - Just OK. It is beyond me how anglers can come down in the
middle of a wide open tuna bite and think they can will other species to bite.
YELLOWFIN TUNA - They found them!
DORADO – So-So. Go tuna fishing.
ROOSTERFISH - Tuna in the morning, roosters in the afternoon, ain't we got
fun!
JACK CREVALLE - Toro! Toro! Toro! You pick the size.
BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Ho Hum.
PARGO AND CABRILLA - Right place, right time, not bad.
SIERRA - Use wire, catch a sierra? Don't think so, might miss out on the
all the other species that ignore wire.

IN GENERAL: O.K. we are ready, where is summer? Here at Magdalena
everyone is at the starting line waiting for the summer bite to take off and it sure
seems like it has been slow getting started this year. I will bet when
it finally gets going it will be a barn burner.

YELLOWTAIL - There is a pick at the Entrada, with a few smaller fish
showing up under the bird schools.
CORVINA - Continues to be the best action in the bay, which is not all
bad.
SNOOK - This is a prime month, I guess we need to tell the snook.
HALIBUT - Chartreuse Clousers retrieved slowly along a sandy bottom
should produce some action.
SIERRA - Quiet for now.
ZIHUATANEJO, MAINLAND MEXICO

IN GENERAL: The blue water is only about five miles off the beach and
the fishing is still outstanding. The boats are averaging three to four
sailfish a day, but there are few people here to take advantage of it. We are only averaging about 10 boat charters a day. The inshore action is outstanding also. Fly-fishing clients Scott and Todd Hood from Salt Lake City fished with Adolpho me on the “Dos Hermanos” one day. They got three roosterfish, several jack crevalle and several black
skipjack tuna.
