EAST CAPE, MAGDALENA BAY AND ZIHUATANEJO CONDITIONS

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

IN GENERAL: Where did everybody go? With the holiday over, the crowds

thinned out and all that is left are some hungry fish. The tuna are just like

that battery-driven bunny and just keep going and going. For you

billfish lovers, the sailfish count began to spike upwards along with

the stripey count. Find the right group and it could be a multiple

hookup fire drill. Speaking of fire drills, Ed Johnson, New York City

along with guide Jeff DeBrown, hit the beach at "zero dark hundred" the

other morning to beat the heat and get in on the gray light bite. Plenty

of ladyfish and pompano got things going and then a blind strike from a

jack that looked more like its namesake the Toro grabbed Ed's fly. As

the sun got higher the sight casting ops were fast and furious, Ed had

one take that he missed on the strip set. All of this was enough to

convince him that he needed another day's action to try to get it right

on the big guys.

· OFFSHORE: Light pressure, lots of action.

· INSHORE: Definitely time for a shot at a few IGFA records if you

are so inclined.

· BEACH: Early morning - late afternoon, ladyfish, pompano; mid-day

multiple shots at Bubba. Let's go fishing!

BILLFISH - Hotter the weather, the better it gets.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - I wonder if they will ever get full.

DORADO - Not a bonanza, but there are some quality size fish out there

if you put in the time.

ROOSTERFISH - You want em, we got em.

JACK CREVALLE - Toro! Toro! Toro! You pick the size.

BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Plenty around.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - A few in the mid teens.

SIERRA - Decided to spend the summer with us.

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Wed., July 09, 2003 Report covers the period Sat.-Tue. (7/05-7/08)

IN GENERAL: O.K. we are ready, where is summer? Here at Magdalena

everyone is at the starting line waiting for the summer bite to take off

and it sure seems like it has been slow getting started this year. I

will bet when it finally gets going it will be a barn burner.

YELLOWTAIL - Try the entrada and under the bird schools out to the west.

CORVINA - Continues to be the best action in the bay, which is not all

bad.

SNOOK - Just not happening yet.

HALIBUT - Chartreuse Clousers retrieved slowly along a sandy bottom

should produce some action.

SIERRA - Quiet for now.

ZIHUATANEJO, MAINLAND MEXICO

Please note the date. We are only providing weekly (not twice a week)

reports for this area.

Sat., July 05, 2003 Report covers the period Sun.-Fri. (6/29-7/04)

IN GENERAL: The blue water is only about five miles off the beach and

the fishing is still outstanding. The boats are averaging three to four

sailfish a day, but there are few people here to take advantage of it.

We are only averaging about 10 boat charters a day. The inshore action

is outstanding also. Fly-fishing clients Scott and Todd Hood from Salt

Lake City fished with Adolpho me on the "Dos Hermanos" one day. They got

three roosterfish, several jack crevalle and several black skipjack

tuna.
