East Cape money tournaments

Buena Vista - Saltwater Fishing Report

East Cape money tournaments
Weather forecast indicates we are finally going to get a break from the wind for a few days. This will give us an opportunity to splash Jen Wren III and shake down her new motors. If it goes as planned we should be able to take a couple laps around the pond and hopefully catch a fish or two. Marlin, dorado and other gamefish are here but the weather has made getting to them a problem.

Checking out our reservation calendar for 2019 I find we have a few open tournament dates with opportunities for anglers wanting to try their luck.

Money tournament fishing brings a different aspect to sportfishing. One big difference is the emphasis is on fishing for quality not quantity. Also in many of the events the focus is just on a particular species.

I enjoy mellow fishing with families and kids where constant action is the goal. For me getting new anglers hooked up with their first ocean fish is very rewarding. But I must say, there is nothing like being in the hunt of a tournament. From the hype at the captain's meeting to the shotgun start, it is a rush. The adrenaline when we get the right bite, then I can't begin to express how exciting the ride back to the scale is when we know we have the goods.

Tournaments certainly aren't for everyone for many different reasons. One consideration is the expense of entry fees and optional side pots. Many anglers are just not competitive or don't like to gamble. The thrill of it all certainly isn't as relaxing as not being in a competition. It is also difficult for many anglers to keep focused and drive by or away from fish hunting for the right one.

Listed are the events and dates we have boats open.

June 2-4 Lets Talk Hookup (free entry if you stay at Rancho Leonero)

June 20-22 Keep'n it Reel Fish and Chips

July 20 Dorado Shootout

August 2-3 East Cape Bisbee

August 24th Wahoo Gold Cup

October 11-13 Lets talk hookup (free entry if you stay at Palmas de Cortez)

October 26 Tuna Shootout
