Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accomodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
LOS CABOS OFFHSORE: 1ST day Chupacabra struck first with an impressive 583-pound blue marlin, followed by a chunky 314-pound yellowfin tuna boated by 19's Toy. There was only one qualifying marlin weighed. El Burrott recorded a 113-pound tuna, while others topping 200 pounds didn't even bother coming to the scales once the weight of 19's Toy fish was broadcast throughout the 80-boat fleet. For Roy Oliver, it was his biggest marlin to date. This feels really good, kind of surreal," a happy but tired Oliver said after the weight of his blue was announced to the assembled crowd. The fight time was just under one hour. The marlin ate a Black Bart plunger lure and was brought aboard on a Shimano Tiagra 130-pound outfit spooled with Suffix monofilament line and 530-pound Momoi leader. Chupacabra, a 64 Hatteras, was trolling in grid F-5, southeast of Cabo, when the fish struck.
Steve Spina, another Bisbee veteran, only took 35 minutes to whip his big tuna, also on 130-pound tackle. It ate a 7-pound aku bait run off the downrigger. Spina and his crew were working the Gordo Banks area. 19's Toy is a 35 Cabo convertible. Andy North, fishing aboard Predator, a 64 Viking, scored the top dorado of the day. His fish tipped the scales at 45.4 pounds. Scoring is based on blue and black marlin weighing more than 300 pounds. Smaller blues, blacks, striped marlin and sailfish count for release points. A total of 20 billfish were released Saturday. Tuna must weigh at least 40 pounds to qualify, while dorado start at a minimum of 30 pounds. Chupacabra, which was in across all cash levels, will earn $179,945 for today's catch. If that fish remains in first place, it would garner an additional $26,208. The daily tuna and dorado cash prizes are $15,725. One of our good friends Sammy of the Sneak Attack got the big fish for today a 565 pound Blue Marlin and placed 2nd in tournament. Good one Sammy!!!
MORE RESULTS
The Bisbee Black and Blue Tournament will begin on October 23-27. We will have all the results here over the next few days.
WATER: Water was really churned up from last Monday to around Saturday after the storm we had. Lots of Green and brown water most of the week. It started to clear some what on Friday. It has gotton a lot better than a few days ago.
WEATHER: The weather really took a dive the first part of the week with the Port Caption closing the port on Monday. Sunday was fine a little overcast and that night the rain from Hurricane Paul started. The port did re open on Tuesday but from then till like Saturday the fishing was way down. The storm really stirred up the ocean and it really effected the bite from Monday all through the week to Saturday.
BILLFISHING: The Marlin and Sailfish bite really slacked off the first part of the week from Monday till around Saturday. Things started to pick up around Saturday after the storm (PAUL) came by us and dumped a bunch of rain. The water was a mess after the rain and the bite went south. Today we did get one marlin and 4 Dorado on the Bob Marlin. Over the last couple days the Blue and Black Marlin fishing has been hot according to tournament results. Its back to normal now and we expect exciting things over the next few days with the Bisbee Tournament starting on the 23rd of October.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollares a piece and there has been plenty around.
TUNA: There has been some big Tunas caught over the last 2 days. The first part of the week was bad but has really turned around. Some good size Tuna have been caught in the fishing tournament. So we expect more of the same.
DORADO: One of our captions found a dead whale between Jamie Banks and Golden Gate and the boat managed to catch 16 Dorado from this spot. The first part of the week was way off but it did rebound later on in the week. Some of the tournament boats did report Dorado.
INSHORE. The fishing inshore really took a hit the first part of the week with the storm. It seems to have come back some what with some Pangas reporting some small Tuna and Dorado close to shore. Grouper fishing was coming back also. Some of the local guys with hand lines did score some in the 40 to 50 pound range on the Pacific.
WAHOO: There has been some reports of Wahoo this week .They are in the area and we expect to see more being caught over the next 2 weeks.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don't even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don't even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don't care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don't have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We expect more of the same good fishing. We did have a little set back first part of the week with the bad weather.
