November 7, 2012
Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

Jc Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report.
As the Admiral Seas It
Fishing Report: 10/29/12 to 11/5/12
.

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accomodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.

WATER: Well since our storm last week the water has returned to normal and is really looking nice and blue again. Water temp in the low to mid 80,s all through fishing area. It did take a few days to get back to normal and probably had an effect on the Big Blue Marlin fishing through out the week.
WEATHER: The weather really has been fantastic this past week and not the mess we had last week. Lots of sunny days, light winds and cooler nights really made the week pleasurable. Typical October weather has set in and we don't expect any storms till next summer. Warm days in the mid 80,s and nights 60 to 70 degrees makes for good sleeping weather.
BILLFISHING: I have heard that the Marlin fishing all through the tournament was pretty slow for big Blue and Black Marlin. The Striped Marlin were more in numbers and they were being caught 1 to 5 miles offshore from the Light House to the Golden Gate and still some Sailfish being caught in the same areas. Even the Pangas were getting in on the action they were catching all the Dorado they wanted. Sailfish and Marlin were reported from the Pangas also.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollares a piece and there has been plenty around.
TUNA: This week has seen some large nice Tuna up to 160 to 350 pounds. Not a lot of fish but what was caught was big in size. Most of the big Tuna was caught in the 1150 and 95 areas of the fishing grounds. Some caught on kites and some caught just soaking bait. There has also been a school of Tuna hanging out in front of the Westin Regina and all the fish we caught were taken on Sardines and Flore Carbon 20 pound test. The fish are spooky. Chum Sardines slow drift with no weight. Good numbers doing this and most are 5 pound to 20 pound but lots of them.
DORADO: The Dorado fishing is some of the best I have ever seen. They are all over the place and hitting about anything you throw at them. Its all you want Dorado week. The Los Arcos area was were all the Dorado action was mostly, and lots of Blue Marlin in that area also.

INSHORE. The fishing inshore really has been some of the best we have almost ever seen when it comes to Dorado. The Marlin and Sailfish bite right offshore has made for a great week. Right off shore close the Westin Tuna bite was really good.Grouper fishing was coming back also. Some of the local guys with hand lines did score some in the 40 to 50 pound range on the Pacific.

WAHOO: We have seen more wahoo in recent days. Some charters reported as many as a half of dozen strikes and up to 7 wahoo caught . The wahoo were hitting various baitfish, as well as trolled skirted lead heads or Rapalas. Most wahoo landed were in the 20 to 40 pound range.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don't even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don't even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don't care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don't have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon.
