Now is the time to come to Cabo as the fishing is still really good and not only that there is some really good deals on airfares lately as Spirit Airlines has some really good deals. You might want to look into this and also if you are in LA or San Diego you might think about flying out of Tijuana as the rates are much cheaper for TJ to Cabo. Just something to think about.
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: The water has been really weird and hard to predict with some days its green and cold and next day its blue and warmer. Water temperature changing from one area to another by 6 or 7 degrees. Normally when when water is like that we have to cover a lot of ground in our boat to get to the good fishing. So with the wind and swells and overcast days its been a lot of work to get into the good fishing but were not doing to bad considering.
WEATHER: The wind has been really effecting the fishing this past week. With some days of strong wind and overcast days we really haven't been able to predict conditions. Nights have been really cool with some nights dropping down to 46 degrees and then warming back up to mid 80,s if it isn't overcast. Today for example started off nice then got cooler in the afternoon. Probabely around 80 today at its peak. So as of lately, we don't know what sort of conditions to expect.
BILLFISHING: We did have one group of 4 guys fish for 3 days with us and and they averaged one marlin per day the guys had to work hard for those 3 marlin. Two of the fish were landed at the Saint Jamie Banks and the other marlin was in the Sea of Cortez at the 1150 area. This past week wasn't all that great for Marlin it did drop off quite a bit over last week. Some days it was too rough to make it up to Golden Gate where reports of fish were. Other fleets did report some productive days catching marlin on the pacific side up around Golden Gate when wind wasn't blowing so hard. I also did hear of a Mako shark being caught on the pacific side. The Mako was 200 and then there was a Hammerhead also caught.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollares a piece and there has been plenty around. DORADO: The Dorado fishing has slowed also over the last week. We did catch some on the Bob Marlin but not like previous week. Really the Dorado fishing is going to slow till June when it will pick back up again. We will catch some but not the amounts we do catch certain times of year.
INSHORE: The Inshore fishing has been really good and its going to continue through out the next few months as we are seeing lots of Sierras coming into the picture. The fishing has been good from the Light House to Rancho Magrino where the Sierra and even Red Snapper fishing has been good. The Yellowtail are starting to appear into the picture with some boats landing 5 or 6 being in front of the Arch until the fish cops showed up and told everyone they had to move to another area. It is now a restricted area in front of the Arch for fishing. There also has been reports of Yellowtail off the Pedregal rocks and up at Margarita offshore 3 or 4 miles on the rock piles. The anglers were jigging iron and using Rapalas and even down rigging live bait.
TUNA: All week there has been Tuna caught with some days good and some days not to hot. Most of the Tuna have been caught on cedar plugs and spreader bars with some being caught on live bait. Saint Jamie banks is where there has been action on the Tuna. We did have one day on the Bob Marlin where we caught 10 Tuna. Seems like the Tuna were the fish of the week with some good catches just not every day but overall for the week it was good. Most of the fish were 20 to 35 pounds with a few going to 50 pounds.
WAHOO: I haven't heard of any Wahoo this past week.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don't even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don't even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don't care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don't have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat.
