HEADLINES: June 19, 2017:
Fish Report Boy Says: Let me start off by saying, and I never thought I would say this; "JC we all know is a character and does get himself into some trouble now and then, but the man does take care of his clients and he makes sure everyone who charters a boat from him are treated fair and gets a great Sport Fishing trip and experience. All his clients have given him nothing but great reviews through Trip Adviser and other media outlets and JC with 20 years in Cabo does have a great reputation and is fair and honest"
Fish Report Boy says: Now, enough of all the nice stuff. I was sitting in JC office and this guy Chris I keep seeing in his office walks in and sits down and made some small talk with JC, then the guy gets up and leaves. I turned to JC and I said: "Why does that Buffoon always show up here when we are talking business? And JC says: "Oh, don't worry about Chris, he is my dear friend, and then JC told me to mind my own business" Well, I snapped back and I threatened JC and told him "If that bum Chris is going to try and steal my job of writing this report I will take it out of your hide JC"
JC Screamed: Don't worry about Chris, he's just an over paid boat captain and Mango farmer who stops by the office and talks trash sometimes. I thought you knew Chris? Fishreportboy screamed: I know Chris, I don't like that fool!!! The guys always trying to give me Mangos and Avacados? JC shouted: Get out of my office and go write that garbage you call a report!!!
Fish Report Boy asked: Who's Catlyn anyway?
JC screamed and Stuttered: it's a guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl, guy, girl I USED TO FISH WITH!!
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.
WEATHER: Hot, Hot and Hotter: Yea, that's the way it's been over this past week as it feels like September now and it's only July. All year has been really on normally hot with daytime temperatures up to around 100 degrees every day with a little breeze at night to cool stuff off, but in general Hot and Humid, so if you are coming to Cabo prepare yourself for some hot days cause it has really set in.
WATER: Hasn't changed much in over a week the mid to warmer water is here to stay awhile and it feels like its pretty normal. The temps I noticed on the Tempbreak map was 74 to 80 degrees, which is about right for now. If we could get some decent weather without the wind I think the fishing would be off the hook. Please check out the Tempbreak map link below to get a good idea on water temperatures.
BILLFISH: Most Marlin fishing has been sporadic, so we don't know where and when we are going to catch fish, pretty much all over the map. Out of the harbor to Grey Rock and up to the 95 spot has been decent. We are working hard to catch Marlin this past week. Our own BoB Marlin did hook 3 Marlin, including a Blue Marlin in which we fought them and released them. The Bite Me our other boat did land a couple nice Marlin also and a Wahoo. The Sailfish are still here also, so if you don't catch a Marlin you mite catch a Marlin.
DORADO: Some Dorado 25 to 35 lbs landed this week and we have been reporting the Dorado fishing has gotton better over last 2 weeks with it slowly kicking into gear. There has been some caught this past week, and it is better than last week. Most of the fish caught were smaller ones but they are out there' and we are happy about that.
SWORDFISH: Hasn't heard of any caught this week.
WAHOO: Afew have been caught this past week ranging in the 30lb to 50lb range and most have been caught inshore on lures.
TUNA: Tuna action started off real good at the beginning of the week about 15 miles offshore and then suddenly in the middle of the week we had cold water current come in and change everything bigtime. Then as soon as it arrived and lasted a couple days the cold water started moving out and the Tuna action returned with fish being landed about 35 miles offshore. There was lots of football size fish to catch using king busters and cedar plugs, but as the week progressed it started to slow some. We haven't seen anything close to Cabo over the past couple days, that they are still out there in some areas, you really have to just run into them
INSHORE: Roosters are still the story if the week if you are inshore fishing. There are a few Dorado also being landed and most are smaller Dorado. The Old Light House seems to be where the inshore action is happening. So jump into a Panga and head up there you might get in on some smaller game action.
From The Admirals Kitchen!
JC,s Oven Baked Baja Sea Bass!!
If you're looking for a simple recipe that really preserves the delicate flavor of sea bass, then I highly recommend you try this one. You can try this with other types of fish but my version used a Baja Pacific Sea Bass.
1lb sea bass (cleaned and scaled)
3 garlic cloves, minced or crushed
1tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1tablespoon italian seasoning or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley leaves
2teaspoons fresh coarse ground black pepper
1⁄3cup white wine vinegar(optional) or 1⁄3 cup white wine(optional)
1. Preheat oven to 450F°.
2. In a cup, mix garlic, olive oil, salt, and black pepper.
3. Place fish in a shallow glass or ceramic baking dish.
4. Rub fish with oil mixture.
5. (Optional) Pour wine over fish.
6. Bake fish, uncovered, for 15 minutes; then sprinkle with parsley or Italian seasoning and continue to bake for 5 more minutes (or until the thickest part of the fish flakes easily).
7. Drizzle remaining pan juices over fish and garnish with lemon wedges.
JC,s Grilled Baja Blackened Sea Bass!!
"This is a truly flavorful dish with a lovely plate presentation. My family and I experimented and made this for lunch. It came out so good I promptly went to our boat and went and caught one so I could make it for my dinner guests that night. YUMMY!"
SERVINGS 4UNITS US
1teaspoon garlic salt
1teaspoon dried thyme leaves, crushed
1⁄2teaspoon black pepper
1⁄4teaspoon ground red pepper
4skinless sea bass (4 to 6 oz ea)
fresh dill sprig (to garnish)
1. Preheat barbecue grill.
2. Combine all seasonings in small bowl and mix well.
3. Melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat and pour into pie plate.
4. Dip sea bass into melted butter, evenly coating both sides.
5. Sprinkle both sides of sea bass with seasoning mixture.
6. Place on grill and cook covered for approximately 6 to 8 minutes or until it is blackened and flakes easily.
7. Turn halfway through grilling time.
8. Serve with lemon and garnish with dill sprigs.
BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You don't want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking, your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of a fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in the next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. Come by the office here in Cabo and get all the latest up to date fishing report. www.jcsportfishing.com http://youtu.be/tSXN6pifQyQ
