Stop by Our Office for up to Date Fishing Report.
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: The water has cooled down somewhat and we expect it to continue cooling since its that time of year. It does bring in some good fishing when the water cools as we will start to see Sierras and Yellowtail start to show up from the Arch to in front of the Solmar and Pedregal. Most areas are in the mid to low 70,s right now with some cooler temperatures up on the pacific side.
WEATHER: Great weather this time of year with highs in the mid 80,s and lows from 60 to 65 degrees, its really just typical Cabo weather right now. You really cant go wrong being here this time of year the fishing is great and so is the weather.
DORADO: Normally the Dorado are paired up so when you get a bull or hen on a lure its common to get the other by pitching some bait so its possible to get them both. Still good numbers of Dorado being caught and they are ranging in the 15 to 25lbs range, but in good numbers this past week.
BILLFISHING: Good numbers of Striped Marlin from the Arch to Los Arcos and they are hitting lures and Ballyhoo. The Ballyhoo seem to be working better than the live bait this week. Some real nice Strippers in the 160lbs range have been caught this past week. The Marlin seem to be basically in the same areas over the last 2 to 3 weeks on the Pacific side up around San Jamie and the Golden Gate. Things are starting to pick up this coming week with the holidays in full swing now. It will really start to get busy from the 20th on so if you plan on fishing Christmas week you better make some reservations its going to get pretty packed. Stop by the office and see me and I can give you a full report on what is going on and where the fish are.
From The Admirals Kitchen
Grilled Wahoo Fish Recipe
From Jerrys Kitchen @What's Cookin' Italian Cuisine
1 lb of Wahoo Fish Cut into chunks or steaks
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 tablespoon lemon juice from 1 fresh lemon sliced
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoons finely ground fresh pepper
Cooking :
Whisk together olive oil, lime and lemon juice, paprika, and red pepper in a small bowl. Place wahoo in a dish. Pour the marinade mix over the fish, place in refrigerator, and let stand for half an hour add sliced lemons on top. Remove wahoo from fridge, place fish on skewers or steaks directly on the grill and grill for 15 minutes on medium turning once at about 8 minutes. Use the leftover marinade mix to baste the fish while it is grilling. Serving suggestions on plain white rice.
WHALES SEASON IS HERE AND THEY ARE STARTING TO SHOW UP: DON'T MISS THAT!!!
TUNA: This last week was pretty interesting we have the Tuna pins from Ensenada passing by. They pull the down every year from Ensenada to La Paz and they are about the size of a football field and have 2 boats pulling them at around 1 knot. There were 3 of the pins so it takes them along time to pass by us here in Cabo but the fishing around them was spectacular with lots of Dorado surrounding the pins and also good numbers of Wahoo. The pins were loaded with small football size Tuna and it takes about 3 or 4 days to pass by us here. I was able to fish around them and we caught 3 Dorado and 1 Wahoo in about 2 hours. Today they are about 50 miles from Cabo and to far for us to run but I heard there are 3 or 4 more pins that will be passing by us here next week.
INSHORE: The Pangas have been doing very well close to shore for Dorado, Striped Marlin and some Roosterfish. Trolling live bait along the beach have been getting numbers of smaller Roosterfish. The Sierras are here but not in big numbers yet I did have a friend land 8 in front of the Solmar trolling hootchies. The inshore fishing is good now and its going to get better here in the next month or so.
WAHOO: A few Wahoo have been caught from Grey Rock to Los Arcos fast trolling jet heads and marauders. We are not getting the amounts of Wahoo that we were seeing as I had mentioned last report this season has been one of the best I have seen foe Wahoo in the last 20 years. W are hoping for some more of the good Wahoo fishing since it is such a good treat for us when its hot.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jc sport Fishing, Pisces Sport Fishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. They don't even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon.
