Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.

WEATHER: Realy nice typical Cabo weather this past week. It has cooled in the evenings but in the day time temperatures are in the 80,s. Honestly perfect weather for fishing and all the activities we have here in Los Cabos.

WATER: It has cooled down somewhat but fishing is still decent even with the cooler water conditions. Normally fishing would have slowed a bit but it is still really good and I am not just saying that either. On the pacific side it is about 5 or 6 degrees colder than on the Sea Of Cortez side but the action has been up there on the pacific side so that's where we will be going to get to the fish

TUNA: Large numbers of Tuna up at the San Jamie Banks with lots of fleet boats reporting limits on Tuna and most don't seem to be that big but there is a lot of them around this area. They seem to be landing the fish by using cedar plugs and king busters. Looking for the birds and schools of Porpoise will help you also in finding the fish.

BILLFISH: There is no better place to be right now than Cabo, fantastic weather, warmer than average water temperatures and superb fishing in general, with every single boat sent out by JC SPORTFISHING catching fish.
The Marlin are being caught up and around the Golden Gate with pretty good numbers of Stripers being landed and almost all the fish are being taken drifting live bait about 2 miles offshore and at about 160ft and most boats were landing 2 to 3 marlin a boat.

DORADO: The Dorado fishing is still good so far this year last week we landed some up and around Ranch Migrano and as far north as the Golden Gate and most fish are being landed on ballyhoo and lures with a few on live bait.

Wahoo Fish Tacos Recipe
Tacos have been part of Mexico's culinary heritage for more than 100 years. These folded tortillas can be stuffed with any number of fillings — with each Mexican state claiming stake to their own. Fish tacos are said to come from Baja California, Mexico's northernmost state. While the original fish taco was made with deep-fried fish, this recipe — made with sautéed fish — is a delicious and fresh version. This recipe is easily doubled, which makes it a great dish to make when entertaining a crowd.

INGREDIENTS
• 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
• 1 1/2 cups red-wine vinegar
• 1/4 cup olive oil
• 1 1/2 teaspoons ancho chile powder
• 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
• 1/4 cup lightly packed fresh cilantro leaves, chopped, plus more for garnish
• 1 jalapeños, stemmed and chopped
• 1 pound wahoo, or another flaky white fish such as mahimahi or cod, cut into 4 pieces
• Salt, to taste
• 8 fresh corn tortillas
• Mexican crema, homemade or store-bought
• Fresh tomato salsa
• 2 limes, cut into quarters
• Cilantro sprigs, for garnish
DIRECTIONS
First marinate the onion. Put the onion in a small bowl and pour in enough red-wine vinegar to cover it well. Set aside for at least 30 minutes or up to several weeks. Next, pour the olive oil into a small bowl and add the ancho chile powder, oregano, cumin, chopped cilantro, and jalapeño. Mix well. Place the fish on a dish and pour the marinade over it, making sure to coat the fish well on both sides. Allow to marinate for 20 minutes. Heat a nonstick sauté pan over medium-high heat. Remove the fish from the marinade and place it in the hot pan (there is no need to add more oil). Season the fish with salt. Cook the fish for 4 minutes undisturbed, then turn over, and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and flake the fish into the pan with a fork, making sure to mix in all the marinade that has stuck to the bottom of the pan. Check for seasoning and add more salt if necessary. Set aside. Place four of the tortillas on a plate and sandwich them between 2 slightly dampened sheets of paper towel and then microwave on high for 45 seconds. Place the warm tortillas in a towel-lined basket or plate and cover. Repeat with the remaining tortillas. To assemble the tacos, place a heaping spoonful of the marinated flaked fish onto the center of a tortilla. Top with the marinated onions. Serve accompanied by Mexican crema and salsa. Garnish with lime wedges and cilantro sprigs.
INSHORE: Well we are knocking the Sierras dead over the last week on the pacific side from the Solmar to the Light House and as far north as the Golden Gate has been really good. We are catching the fish on hootchies and stripped bait in tight to the beach. There has been a few reports of Yellowtail off the Pedregal rocks jigging iron. The Panga action has been really good for Snapper and Groupers close to shore in 40ft to 60 ft of water in the rocks using cut bait.
WAHOO: This week a lot of Wahoo reported from Rancho Magrino to San Jamie Banks and were being caught on lures and jet heads with some in the 50lbs to 60lbs range. A few were being landed at Grey Rock on jet heads and down rigged rapalas in about 200ft of water.
A cousin of mackerel, wahoo is found in warm oceans around the world. In the Atlantic, they're harvested commercially in hook-and-line fisheries along the Atlantic coast and Gulf of Mexico. Only about 10 percent of the U.S. harvest of wahoo comes from the Atlantic and Gulf, where the recreational fishery for this species is more dominant. Most wahoo in the U.S. market is harvested in the Pacific and landed in Hawaii, where the fish is called "ono," meaning "good to eat."
While Wahoo is believed to be abundant and can support a high rate of harvest, managers have adopted a precautionary approach to managing these fisheries. Recognizing the significant importance of Wahoo to the recreational fishing community in the Atlantic and Gulf, managers seek to maintain the current harvest levels of wahoo and ensure that no new fisheries develop to preserve the historical and current allocation of the resource between recreational and commercial fishermen.

BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jc sport Fishing, Pisces Sport Fishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. They don't even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report.
