Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

January 15th to 21st, 2009
Overall Catch Success Rate 100%
BILLFISH: Marlin is king in Cabo, every single boat out caught from one to fifteen marlin in the 110 to 160 lb class this week, with many boats getting over a half dozen stripers in a day. That is the boats targeting them…..pangas stayed closer in and went for smaller games and boats we sent out of San Jose also had different results. But, really the last five months have been a dream for marlin. The Golden Gate seems like the goose that laid the golden egg, as it continues to enthrall marlin, reluctant to leave that area and hungry for the live bait offered by anglers. Top boat this week was "C Rod" with fifteen marlin released on January 21st for Jim McGreney, Kevin Groethe, Don Supcoe, George O'Malley, Dave Jordan and Mike Fletcher all from Denver, Colorado. " Tracy Ann" has eleven marlin for the Fabiani's and friends from Southern California on the 20th, while "La Brisa" reeled in ten marlin this same day, for Rielands and Frasers from Alberta Canada. The number of anglers in town is pretty low, but those making it down here are experiencing perfect conditions and fishing. Pisces anglers caught a total of 208 striped marlin this week with all but one fish released.
OTHERS SPECIES: Smaller game species are actually pretty good right now, but the thing is most boats are going directly for marlin. Dorado catches dropped for boats hoping to pick up a dorado on the way back and forth to Golden Gate, to a catch rate of eighteen percent. However, boats that we sent out of San Jose did pretty well on them, as well as tuna to 30 lbs and lots of small wahoo; they were catching them as if they were sierra….in regard to sheer numbers. Inshore close to Cabo boats caught snapper, roosters and yellowtail, as well as some nice sierra.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Perfect! The seas are so calm, I even went swimming in the Pacific with manta rays…clear skies.
LOCATION: Marlin, Golden Gate, smaller game like roosters an sierra, Land's End to Gaspareño. Wahoo, tuna and dorado, Punta Gorda, Iman.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 74 F
BEST LURES: Live bait.

The Unbelievable Marlin Fishing Continues.

Wahoo, Tuna & Dorado were caught from the boats sent from San Jose.
