Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Conditions Improve as Storms Narrowly Miss Local Waters. Anglers Enjoy Better Catches, But Keep a Close Eye on the Unpredictable Weather 🌊🐟🔥
The location ranges from just a few miles offshore to the 95 and 1150 spots, extending farther south and southeast. Water temperatures are holding steady between 86°F and 89°F (30°C to 32°C).
Weather Forecast:
Next week in Cabo San Lucas, expect mostly sunny skies with high temperatures around 90°F (32°C) and lows around 75°F (24°C). Gentle breezes will prevail, with occasional light winds from the northwest.
Species Highlights:
Striped Marlin: The marlin Action has been heating up at the 95 and 1150 spots, with plenty of bait fish spotted just a few miles offshore from Cabo. These impressive fish are aggressively feeding, striking at lures, rigged dead bait, and live bait. While catches are happening increasingly closer to shore using a variety of methods, including teasers and dredges, marlin remain elusive, with not all fish biting despite their strong presence in the area.
Roosterfish: The bite remains steady, with successful catches reported. These fish are spread out, from just a few miles past the lighthouse and Hard Rock Hotel to a couple of miles offshore, past Grey Rock on the Sea of Cortez. They're even chasing bait and feeding in the Marina and around the Jetty.
Wahoo: These fierce predators continue to patrol the waters outside of Cabo, attacking everything from lures and jetheads to dead bait, marauders, Rapalas, and Nomads. The action has been unpredictable this week, with varying catches. Despite their elusive nature, wahoo remain active, hitting rigged ballyhoo on long troll lines, deep-diving lures assisted by planer boards, and jethead lures. Our specialized technique involves rigging dead bait and using lures on deep planer boards for a better chance at hooking these elusive fish.
Mahi Mahi: Mahi bite has slowed down, catches have been scarce with no major schools reported. We have landed some nice Mahi while fishing for billfish.
Tuna: These fish are holding offshore near the temperature break where the currents shift, typically 10 to 30 miles out. They're striking medium-sized lures on the first pass, with some smaller tuna also biting on kingbusters when using light tackle.
Sailfish: They are here and several have been caught throughout the week while targeting Marlin.
Blue Marlin: They are offshore and are found crusing warm water currents while targeting billfish on top water or while searching for tuna offshore.
Notes:
The marlin bite remains steady this week in Cabo, especially at the 95 and 1150 spots. Striped marlin are abundant though tough to hookup in the last few days, aggressively feeding on lures, rigged dead bait, and live bait. While many are being caught closer to shore, these fish remain elusive, with not all taking the bait. Sailfish are also adding to the excitement, striking in the same areas. Wahoo and tuna are actively patrolling the waters offshore, with wahoo hitting a variety of lures and tuna holding near temperature breaks 10 to 30 miles out. Roosterfish are spread out along the coast, with catches reported from near the lighthouse to the Marina. With such diverse species and active conditions, it's the perfect time for anglers to head out and experience the action. As few boats are going out this time of year.
The experienced crews at Fin Chaser Sportfishing are well-prepared to navigate these conditions, ensuring an exceptional fishing experience for our guests. Alongside marlin, anglers in Cabo San Lucas are enjoying excellent overall fishing conditions. Reports indicate a healthy mix of dorado (mahi-mahi), yellowfin tuna, and wahoo. The striped marlin bite remains strong, with many boats reporting successful catches and releases.
Weekly Tips:
Early Departure: Set off early from the Marina to get first pick at the bait it continues to be scarce plenty mullet for roosters, no mackerel, few google eyes/big eye scad (caballito), and green jacks (cocinero).
Bait Rigging: Medium-sized live baits are key to enticing those elusive catches.
Tackle Maintenance: Keep your gear in prime condition for the best chance at a high catch rate.
Prepare for a memorable week on the waters of Cabo San Lucas, where every cast is an opportunity for an unforgettable catch. 🌊🐟✨
