BILLFISH: This week we saw a nice mix of billfish consisting of blue marlin striped marlin and sailfish. Angler of the week was Clint Jordan from Fairhope, Alabama who fished aboard "Spartacus" on July 26th and had an incredible day, releasing a 450 lb marlin, a 180 lb striped marlin, a 200 lb thresher shark and boated a dorado. Of course he didn't do this all on his own, wife Missy, Jim & Andre Shilston, Shannon Walls and Blaine Crum were also on board to help out. They fished the Punta Gorda and Destiladeras area with a black and orange, tiger striped lure, gettig the big fish. This same day fishing a bit closer to Cabo, between the 95 and 11.50 spots, "La Brisa" caught and released three sailfish for Chris Jones from Elkhurt Indiana. A couple of days before this "Attitude Adjustment" fished on the Pacific 18 miles out from the Old Lighthouse and released a 300 lb blue marlin, that took a green and yellow lure and then released a striped marlin, that took a live caballito for the Robinson family from Yorba Linda, California. Billfish catches were fair with thirty eight percent of charters catching but making up for this was the yellow fin tuna, which ended up being the most abundant sportfish in Cabo this week. Pisces anglers caught nine striped marlin, two blue marlin and eight sailfish.
OTHER SPECIES: Tuna were spread out both on the Cortez and Pacific sides, though the boat that did best travelled a really long way; "Bill Collector" headed 60 miles offshore on the Cortez side, to be able to catch 40 tuna (the majority released) the sizes were 20, 30, 100 and 150 lbs...sounds like a long but productive day, for Mark Chiavetta and friends. "Cabolero" also did well with 30, but closer to home at 5 miles out from Golden Gate on the Pacific, for Ernie Sandoval. Other tuna catches ranged from one to eight with cedar plugs and feathers working well. Fifty three percent of boats caught tuna. Dorado catches were slow this week with just four caught by our boats. There were some nice roosterfish catches with some size being seen on this species. Mark Chiavetta aboard "Bill Collector" released a 65 lb ‘er off of Chileno.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Partly cloudy skies, hot, it keeps threatening to rain but doesn't . Seas moderate.
LOCATION: Destiladeras, Punta Gorda, San Jaime, 11.50 spot, 95 spot, 18 miles off of Old Lighthouse.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 83 F
BEST LURES: Red colored lures blue marlin, sailfish and striped marlin live bait, cedar plugs and feathers for tuna.

Here are Shahram and Brittany Bijan from Sausalito CA with their 350 lbs Blue Marlin, caught aboard the 28ft Adriana with a white and blue lure at La Herradura, about 8 miles form shore. Took them about one hour, not bad for a 7 month pregger.
