BILLFISH: Fishing was really great in Cabo this week, with pretty much every boat catching something. We did see a bit of a slow down on striped marlin this week but the reason for this is that tuna moved into the area, which meant boats spent time catching these and were reluctant to move on to other waters in search of marlin when they were having so much fun. One exception though was the "Tracy Ann" with lady anglers aboard, Colleen Silva from Escondido Ca, and Amaria Simth from Larkhall, Scotland who were pretty stong gals to release a blue marlin, two striped marlin , a sailfish and boat three dorados. They fished on the Pacific at Pozo de Cota with the only fish caught on live bait, the sailfish; all the rest were on lures. The only other boat to get more than one marlin this week was "Rebecca" with two striped marlin released and two doardo boated, just two miles off of Migriņo, also on the Pacific by James and Dylan Archer from Parke, Texas. Although forty percent of charters caught billfish, the catches were usually of a striped marlin or sailfish plus dorado and tuna. Pisces anglers caught a total of nine striped marlin, one blue marlin and four sailfish, all released.
OTHER SPECIES: Tuna was the top catch in Cabo this week with sixty percent of boats catching from one to twenty tuna in a day. Weights varied from 20 to 110 lbs. Leslie Dickey from Weatherford, Texas was winner of the week with the 110 lb'er caught on "C Rod" on August 11th, 25 miles out from the Jaime Bank on a Petrolero lure. "Tracy Ann" was really on fire this week, producing most fish day after day; on August 8th they had nineteen tuna and two dorado for a group from San Diego. Next day out they had twenty tuna, in the same spot, outside the Jaime Banks, for Chris Lavarone from Mossapequa, New York. On August 12th, the same boat caught twelve tuna,tAwo dorado and a 44 lb wahoo for the Larson family from Imperial, Missouri. Total number of tuna caught for Pisces this week was 196. Dorado catches were not as plentiful, but boy was there some size to them. We had a couple of very big fish, such as the 64 lb'er caught by Bob Dicheck from New York and a 60'lber caught by 8 year old Steve Randall from Frisco, Texas. Forty five percent of charters caught dorado this week with fish ranging from 15 to 60 lbs all on lures. The only other fish caught were a few bonitas, one other 50 lb wahoo and a needle fish.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Hot, partly cloudy, seas calm to moderate, a few whitecaps early morning on the Pacific.
LOCATION: 95 % of the boats fished the Pacific from the Old Lighthouse to Golden Gate, with San Jaime the most popular spot. A few went to Chileno and Herradura on the Cortez side.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 86 F
BEST LURES: black/green, yellow/red, blue/white, live caballito.
