Capt. Tracy Ehrenberg
April 9, 2008
Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES FISH REPORT

APRIL 1st to 7th, 2008

OVERALL CATCH SUCCESS RATE 94%

BILLFISH: We are pleased to report a steady increase on striped marlin, with sixty four percent of boats catching marlin this past week. This period started off a bit up and down but as got into the last two days covered by this report every boat we sent out had marlin and not just one, some were catching as many as six or seven in a day, though the norm, tended to be one or two plus some eating fish, such as tuna or dorado. Dozens of marlin are now being spotted and "Falcon" was the exception catching and releasing 8 and then 9 striped marlin on two consecutive days, Monday and Tuesday for Michael Connolly, part time Cabo resident. Most of the marlin were within 15 miles of Cabo, which boats didn't have to the travel the 20 to 35 miles that they have been doing for tuna. John Sugden, from San Francisco also did well to release 6 marlin and one mako shark on April 6th, aboard "Tony's Machine". On April 7th, "Valerie" released 5 marlin and boats one tuna 12 miles off of Lands End for Ted and Anna Peck, Tom & Anita Gilday and Eric Atkins The marlin are taking live bait almost exclusively at this time. Pisces anglers caught a total of 61 striped marlin, all but one released.

OTHER SPECIES: Tuna catches remain good with about the same number of boats catching these as marlin; however, quantities of fish were much higher, from one to twenty three fish per boat, found usually more than 15 miles out in diverse locations. Dorado catches were slower at twenty two percent with catches seldom more than one fish, picked up whilst trolling. Not a lot going on inshore, just a few left over large squid and the odd mako shark.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Clear, sunny skies, seas mostly calm, some whitecaps on the Pacific.
LOCATION: 23 to 25 miles south of Cabo, 19 miles off of Cabeza de Ballena, 15 to 25 miles off of Chileno, 18 miles off of San Jose, 25 miles out of Punta Gorda.

AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 71 F

BEST LURES: Live bait.
