Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

Nov.29-Dec. 5th 2002

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT Nov. 29th to Dec. 5th

BILLFISH: Despite our promising fish report last week, this week did not follow in the same vein. On certain days boats saw up to twenty marlin in a day, but getting them to eat was a different issue. Due to their pickiness, our marlin catch success rate was quite low at forty-eight percent, however, the catch rate for all species combined was ninety-one percent, so small game did take up the slack for most people. Pretty much all the fishing was on the Pacific and should stay there for the next couple of months; Los Arcos was the most productive area. Teddy Baier, on his yearly “busman’s holiday” (he is a charter boat skipper from the Florida Keys), was pleased to release three striped marlin and an 80 lb wahoo aboard “Valerie” on December 4th. One day before this “Tracy-Ann” scored three stripers and three dorado for Merle Erickson & Doug Hanna from Chicago. The Gates and Fisher, families both from McAllister, Oklahoma, were thrilled to get a striper and two sizeable dorado this same day aboard “Andrea”. Other notable catches were two striped marlin & twelve dorado aboard “Rebecca” on November 30th for Doug Flemming. “La Brisa” had an enviable mixed bag on November 29th, with a striper released, four dorado and one wahoo for Brad Boyd from Stephenville, Texas. Pisces anglers released thirty eight striped marlin this week. OTHER SPECIES: Dorado was king this week – our boats had well over 200 of this tasty species, with weights ranging from 15 to 40 lbs, though the standard was around 20 lbs. Dorado took both lures and bait and due to some debris left over from last week, were found in schools. No tuna for us, even though on some days boats ranged as far 30 miles. Wahoo catches remain good, with catches every day – “Ruthless” had three wahoo as well as fourteen dorado, for David Baziak on Nov. 30th. Inshore sierra were about the only thing pangas caught – roosterfish were slow. LOCATION: Pacific – Los Arcos, 9- 25 miles out from Old Lighthouse. WEATHER CONDITIONS: We had a refreshing rain on Tuesday morning, that lasted a little over an hour and was much needed, otherwise, weather had been gorgeous, clear, sunny skies, seas mostly calm. AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 78 F BEST LURES: Petrolero, feathers, live bait. Based on the catches of Pisces Fleet by Tracy Ehrenberg
