Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

January 24 to 30th 2003

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT

JANUARY 24TH TO 30TH, 2003

BILLFISH: Wow, what a fabulous week, we’ve had here in Cabo. Not one of our boats was skunked this period; everybody out caught something and a little over ninety-five percent of our charters caught striped marlin. Pretty much all of the action was at the Jaime Bank on the Pacific, with live bait working best. About three quarters of the fish were caught down deep, with weighted live bait, which is why we picked up a few sharks in with the marlin. Golf Pro David Frost, from South Africa, was fortunate to release three aboard “La Brisa” on January 27th. Four marlin days were not rare, with ”Tracy Ann” achieving this number on the 29th, in a mini-tournament, Karina also did the same on the 25th for the Richards & Johnson’s from Washington State, and “Valerie” also had a quadruple this same day for the Pritchard’s and Perkins from Idaho. “Felina” had the highest total for us in one day, which was five marlin released on the 24th. Weather has been a bit odd this week, in that it was overcast nearly every day, seas were mostly flat. Pisces anglers caught a total of seventy-seven striped marlin, of which, all but one were released.

OTHER SPECIES: Not a great deal going on with the small game fish, but we did have some nice catches – such as a tasty 180 lb yellowfin tuna, caught aboard “Karina” on the 28th, taken by Allan Hammack from Riverton, Vermont, who also released a striped marlin. We also had a few other tuna, but they were of school size at 20 to 25 lbs. Dorado slowed down dramatically this week, with a no more than a dozen caught for us this week – weights were from 25 to 40 lbs. A couple of nice Mako sharks were released mid-week. Inshore boats caught small dorado, lots of sierra and small roosters.

LOCATION: San Jaime, Old Lighthouse

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Overcast, seas calm.
