Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT FEBRUARY24TH TO MARCH 2ND, 2006

BILLFISH: I must say the fishing for striped marlin is pretty great right now, in fact eighty-seven percent of charters caught between one and five striped marlin each. Fishing was concentrated between the 11.50 spot and Golden Gate with live bait working most effectively. Nevertheless there were some boats that no matter how hard they tried could not get their hook ups to stick. The week started out well with a couple of boats having quadruple days, such as “Valerie” with fish released at Punta Gorda for Adam, Don and Arthur Parz from Big Sandy, Texas. This same day Pat Davison, Joe Klein, Matt Donovan and Dana Atting, all from Burley, WA, had great fishing aboard “C-Rod”, also releasing four and capturing some great images (see below) also at Punta Gorda. On February 28th, it was “Ruthless” and “ Tracy Ann” that had four apiece for Bob Neale and Krystin Black from Florida and Mary Jean and Jim Jones from Connecticut and so the week went on with steady catches of striped marlin amidst great weather and a host of gray whales. At the close of the week we had a couple of boats that did even better, “Chinaco” released five stripers for Matt De Soto, Bill Hoffman and Chris Cheney from California, as did “Sr. Moment”. Our overall catch success rate for all species combined was eighty-eight percent, which basically means hardly anything but marlin was caught. Pisces anglers caught a total of 139 striped marlin of which 136 were released, weights were from 140 to 180 lbs.

OTHER SPECIES: Not really a lot happening with smaller game, we caught no yellowfin tuna this week and just three dorado. William Black from Scotland out on “Valerie” released six mako sharks mid-week. Inshore pangas tried for sierra, roosters and different jack. Some days fish could be plainly seen but were reluctant to take anything.

LOCATION: Cortez 11.50 t Punta Gorda

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Clear, sunny skies, calm seas.

AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 70-71 F
