PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
MARCH 17TH TO 23RD, 2006
BILLFISH: We are pleased to report good striped marlin catches this week. In fact this was practically the only species caught with consistency. Close to eighty percent of Pisces charters caught between one and five striped marlin, with the average being one or two fish. All of the catches were on the Cortez side between the 11.50 spot and Punta Gorda. Some boats are now also venturing as far as Destiladeres located nearly 40 miles from port. Some boats drew a blank, with March 20th being particularly slow. Most of the marlin took live mackerel .”C Rod” was the hot boat this week, releasing eight striped marlin on March 19th for Joseph Murine and David Critelli from Utila NY , Steve Scates from Oak Harbor, Wa and Mike Turner from Tracy, Ca. This same boat had five marlin released on the 17th for the same group…….lucky guys. Other notable catches were four marlin released at Destiladeres aboard “Karina” for Hank and Paula Johnson from La Mesa, AZ fishing with John and Skeeter Mast from Encintas, Ca. This same day “Adriana” fished the same area and also released four. To close the week “Tracy Ann” has a quadruple marlin day, this time 20 miles off of Chileno for Jerry Pearson, Jamie Kowel and Davis Bilendo all from Calgary, Canada. Our overall catch success rate for all speices combined was eighty one percent. Pisces anglers caught a total of 105 striped marlin this week, plus four sailfish, all but three fish were released.
OTHER SPECIES: Not very much of any smaller game this week, but after marlin the next most likely catch was marlin, nevertheless, this were not abundant, with just twelve percent of charters catching a solitary fish in the 15 to 25 lb class. The only other catches were a few mako sharks, all but one released; weights were from 50 to 100 lbs.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: We had one extremely cold and windy day (Sunday) when temperatures dropped to 69 F in the daytime, however, fishing was not affected. Seas are calm on the Cortez, with some chop in the afternoons. Pacific is rough. Some partially cloudy days with weather now turning sunny with little wind.
LOCATION: Outer Gordo banks, Destialderes, Redhill, 95 spot.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 71 f
