Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT November 17th to 23rd, 2006

OVERALL CATCH SUCCESS RATE FOR ALL SPECIES COMBINED 99% BILLFISH: Wow, what a fabulous week we’ve had…as predicted a couple weeks ago the striped marlin bite has taken off in full force, though is yet to reach it’s maximum potential. Boats were busy, mostly at the Golden Gate, loading up on stripers but also find sailfish and the odd blue marlin here and there as well as good amounts of dorado. Our star of the week was “Ni Modo” who hustled at Golden Gate producing TWELVE striped marlin and one sailfish released on November 22nd, for group from Texas, a mix of children, ladies and guys the Boles and the Sudberrys, they came off of the boat in a daze but excited. Next day out this same boat released ELEVEN striped marlin this time for Robert Lux from Wayzata, Mn fishing with youngsters Jessa, Tyler and McKinsey. A few days before this on the17th, “Ni Modo” had scored a very decent seven marlin released for Michael Stuart from Calabasas, Ca Rick Cook from Angoura and Mike Grossman from Woodland Hills. “Andrea” had five stripers released on the 21 st for anglers James and Kemp from England. “Rebecca” had four stripers and one sailfish for Gerry Richmond from Oceanside; Ca. “Valerie” released a fair size blue marlin closer to Cabo by the Old Lighthouse. Quadruple and triple marlin days were common this week, which means anglers are very pleased. Only one boat was “skunked” (sorry guys) giving us an overall catch success rate of 99% and a billfish catch rate of eighty four percent. Pisces anglers caught a total of 173 striped marlin, 12 sailfish and 2 blue marlin, for a total of 187 billfish, of which two stripers between 120 and 140 lbs were boated. Nearly every striped marlin is taking live bait - and strange as it may seem, boats are bottom fishing for them. This happens once a year for a period of approximately two weeks.

OTHER SPECIES: After marlin dorado, were the next widely caught fish with 36% of boats catching between one and fourteen fish. Sizes were from 15 to 30 lbs taking a combination of lures and bait. Our total tally on dorado was 137 fish. Tuna catches were quite a bit slower with just 10% of boats finding average size fish from 12 to 25 lbs. “Yahoo” caught a 45 lb squid. Inshore roosterfish, skipjacks and bonitas were caught. We also had a few groupers pulled up from the bottom at Golden Gate in the 30 lb class.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Clear, sunny skies, seas mostly calm. LOCATION: Golden Gate was number one, Old Lighthouse, Pozo de Cota, Gaspareño.

AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 81 F

BEST LURES: Live bait.
