Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
DECEMBER 8TH TO 14TH, 2006
Overall catch success rate 99%
BILLFISH: Stupendous fishing in Cabo this week, with all but one vessel catching fish and a whopping eighty eight percent of charters hooking up to striped marlin and we are not just talking the odd fish here and there we are talking serious numbers. Fishing improved as the week progressed and by the last day of this report, we were seeing catches in double digits, such as “Falcon” who caught and released eleven marlin at the Golden Gate for local Michael Connolly. This same day December 14th, 28 ft “Adriana” released an unbelievable nine fish for Kerry Dixon, from Nottingham, England partnered with John Wochter from New Jersey. The amusing thing is Kerry has never caught a marlin before; he phoned from England rather nervous and informed us that it was his dream to catch a marlin, we told him to come on down and not to worry, that we would look after him and you could say that his expectations were more than fulfilled. Not be left out “Rebecca” did very well, also on the 14th catching and releasing nine stripers for George Fee and Jean Gurney from New Jersey – they also boated three dorado in the 20 to 30 lb class. Again the action was almost exclusively at Golden Gate with live bait. There were a couple of good days off of the Old Lighthouse, but the bite didn’t last at this location and boats decided to stick with the more certain Golden Gate. Boats averaged one to three marlin per day, with many quadruple catches for a number of charter boats.
Pisces anglers caught a total of 127 striped marlin and 1 sailfish, all but two marlin at 130 lbs and 150 lbs respectively were released.
OTHER SPECIES: Dorado catches were pretty good with fifty-seven percent of boats catching between one and four fish between 15 and 30 lbs. Most of the dorado were found mixed in with the dorado at Golden Gate. Yellow fin tuna catches were on the slow side, with just ten percent of boats having any luck with this species. The boat that did best on tuna was “Andrea” with eight fish ranging from 20 to 45 lbs, caught on a combination of bait and lures fourteen miles off of the Old Lighthouse. We did not have many anglers fish inshore this week, but those that did caught a few skipjack, roosters and one grouper was also taken.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Perfect, clear, sunny skies, calm seas.
LOCATION: Golden Gate.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP:77 F
BEST LURES: Live bait.
