Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
JANUARY 26TH TO FEBRUARY 1ST, 2007
BILLFISH: The start of the week and for most of it was very good for striped marlin, however, as the week progressed the moon got bigger and by the end of this report, it was if fishing was switched off. Boats reported lots of fast moving bait at Golden Gate but not much activity on the marlin front. Seems like they are gorging at night and then resting up during the daytime. All the signs are that as the moon wanes a little, it will switch on again. This may sound gloomy but then we have been very spoiled the last few weeks with multiple fish day for many boats. Numbers were still good resulting in an overall catch success rate for all species combined of eighty seven percent with seventy-six percent catching marlin. Some boats did really well such as “Ruthless” with five marlin released on the 29th for James Killngsworth, Warren Pescud and Max Jones from Hong Kong. This same day “Yahoo” also had five for a group from Anaheim, Ca consisting of Jose Ochon, Kevin Pullan and Erik Aguilar. “Valerie” was one of our hottest boats this week, with five marlin and five dorado on January 28th for the Chevron group and four marlin on both the 27th and 28th. Pisces anglers caught a total of 114 marlin this week, of which all but two were released. Weights averaged 130 lbs.
OTHER SPECIES: Once again this week dorado were second place to marlin with thirty six percent of boats catching between one and nine fish, with the average no more than one or two fish. Weights were average at 20 to 30 lbs.
Inshore boats caught red snapper, sierra in good amounts, and skipjacks. Some boats offshore also had squid to 35 lbs. “Falcon” fished off of the lighthouse and captured three tunas, but they weren’t anything to write home about at 20 lbs each.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Partly cloudy, but more sunny days than the weather forecast predicted. Seas mostly calm. Somewhat bumpy on the way out.
LOCATION: Golden Gate, El Faro Viejo.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 69-70 F
