Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES SPORTFISHING WEEKLY FISH REPORT FROM APRIL 6TH THROUGH APRIL 12TH, 2007

OVERALL SUCCES RATE: 89%

BILLFISH: This week we could see a light decrease on the overall catch, as we had some high tides and the seas were a bit rough, making a few clients coming back empty handed. However, when it comes to marlin, we had a very good week with 84% of the boats coming back with marlin flags. On April 6th we had a couple of quadruple catches by La Brisa for Matthew and Brian Fockman, and The Swinger for the Stapp Family from California. That same day, one of our “backup” boats, the Marea caught a 190lbs Striped marlin for Paul Heilman from Sugarland, TX. The next day was even better, Bill Collector released 6 stripers for Winship and Brandon Ross from Washington, Yahoo also released 6 stripers for Sr. Julio Ysusi from Mexico City and kept a nice 30lb Dorado for dinner. Falcon also came back with 6 striped marlin released for our good Spaniard friends, Don Alfonso Zapata, Don Juan Zapata, Don Juan J. Zapata, Don Pedro Cruz and Don Jose Ma. Capellan from Sevilla. But it was the Lady Holly that wins the highlight this week with 7 seven Striped Marlins, 6 of them released for John Waters and friends. On April 8th, Valerie released 3 stripers for James Hawryluk from TX. The same day Bill Collector caught 3 and released 2 stipeys for Will Munaco from MI. Sundancer released 4 striped marlins for Thomas River’s party and released also a Dorado. April 9th, Bill Collector released 3 striped marlins for Tom and Tommy Ross and Doug Somerville, and Valerie released 4 for Brad and Cindy Yaskowitz, William Cook, A.J. Cook and David Blautfield from Breckersville, OH. April 10th, The Swinger released 3 Stipeys for another group from Spain, Don Bartolome Vich Roadhouse and Don Juan Rafael Galea from Alicante. On April 11th we saw a little more action; Yahoo released 4 striped marlins for Jennings French and Craig Bickler from MI. that same day, Libre caught 4 and released 3 stripers for Ryan Royes and Jim Parker from Idaho and Thomas McCabe from Kalispell, MT. Adriana released 6 striped marlins for Gary, Cory and Donna Sercu from Magnolia, OH. A total of 135 Striped Marlins were caught this week, and 125 were released.

OTHER SPECIES: We are still waiting for Tuna and Dorado to start biting, this week we only had one boat, The Bill Collector catching 8 Yellowfin for our very good friend Jeff Smith, two of them were about 50lbs, but they had to go a long way to Cabrillo, which is around 30 miles from Cabo, and from there another 25 miles from shore, so it was around 50 miles total. This week 11% of the boats came back with Dorado, all football size. We are still catching mako shark and we had some yellowtail tuna. Mark Lenninger and friends caught 6 yellowtail between 18 – 22lbs, a very tasty dinner…

LOCATION: Golden Gate and Jaime Banks on the Pacific, with a few catches in Santa Maria Bay and Chileno Bay on the Sea of Cortez.

WEATHER: Still chilly in the mornings but it is getting a little warmer. Most of the week the seas were a little rough with 4 and 5ft waves, however, the last day, seas were clamed as a lake.

WATER TEMPERATURE: 68 F. in most locations with a few spots on 61 F.
