Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
JUNE 22nd to JUNE 28th, 2007
OVERALL SUCCESS RATE: 85%
BILLFISH:
This week we had a cold current known as upwelling which brings all the cold water from the bottom to the surface and makes the fish hard to find as most of the species in this area prefer warmer water, 70 F and up. Water temperatures were as low as 65F and now with this current gone, things are getting back to normal and we are up to 74 F and rising.
Billfish was a bit slow due to this cold water, with just 50% of the boats coming back with marlin flags, however we had some very nice catches.
On June 22nd, La Brisa released three striped marlin and landed a 30 lb dorado for James & Cary Noakes from Texas. This same day Mextime also released three stripers and kept 4 dorados 30-40 lbs and a 20 lb tuna for Dennis Roney from Il, and Robert Lyons from Florida. Yahoo also released 3 striped marlin for Mark England and friends, and Sr. Moment landed a larger than average 200 lb Striped Marlin for James Koval from Hertford, Ct.
On June 23rd Ni Modo released two striped marlin and kept two yellowfin tuna 30 – 50 lbs for Kevin Maloney’s party water is finally getting warmer, fishing should improve a lot in next days.
A total of 50 billfish were caught, and 49 were released.
OTHER SPECIES:
We saw a great improvement in small game fishing, especially Dorado with 50% of the boats coming back with this species and all were pretty decent size, between 25 to 50 lbs. Bill Collector caught 11 dorado on June 25th plus a 40 lb wahoo for Ben Robinson.
We also had a very slight increase on yellowfin tuna, not as much as we would like, however there were some nice catches such as those aboard Reel Heaven, catching 6 yellowfin between 20 – 60 lbs for Kent Yuntt from Bend, Or. La Brisa also caught a 60 lb tuna plus two dorados for Jeremy McKey.
Inshore fishing gave us roosterfish, jack crevalle, and red snapper.
WATER TEMPERATURE: With upwelling 62-65F, with the upwelling gone, we are getting back to normal, so far we are back on 74F.
LOCATION: Jaime Banks, 11:50 Spot, Old Lighthouse.
BEST LURE: Live Bait
Based on the catches of Pisces Fleet, by Jorge Narro in Tracy’s absence.
