Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
JULY 29th to July 5th, 2007
Overall Catch Success Rate 90.75%
BILLFISH: Weather still continues to be cool for July but towards the end of this period, the mercury began to creep up a bit, which means we are on the threshold of blue marlin season. This week we saw decent catches of striped marlin, though below average for what we expect with just forty six percent of charters hooking up to stripers in the 110 to 160 lb class. These catches would be considered good anywhere else in the world, but in Cabo, quite frankly we are spoiled with an incredible marlin fishery. The slack this week was taken up by dorado and for the first time this year marlin was surpassed as the most widely caught species. We did have some very nice catches, such as six striped marlin aboard “C Rod” William Buckley from Elliot, Ma at Los Frailes on July 5th and five this same say for “Ni Modo” at the 11.50 and 95 spots for the Jenson family from California. Earlier in the week “Andrea” released three for Frank and Karen Hevener from Warrington, Pennsylvania. Practically all the marlin were caught on live bait. Boats started out fishing on the Pacific then moved into the Sea of Cortez. Pisces anglers caught a total of 42 striped marlin this week, all released.
OTHERS SPECIES: We were very thankful for the dordo this week, the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time. Sixty one percent of charters caught between one and twenty fish in the 15 to 25 lb class. It should be mentioned that those boats catching over ten are releasing the remainder of their catch. “Libre” was our top boat catching 21 on July 1st at the Golden Gate on the Pacific for Mark Ienttagen, using a combination of bait and lures. “Rebecca” had nine dorado plus a striped marlin released for Vince Turrentine from Deer Park, Texas also at Golden Gate. Pisces anglers total 136 dorado this week. Tuna catches were very slow with just five fish caught and none of notable size. We did have a few wahoo though again, sized were small at 30 to 50 lbs.
WEATHER: Clear, sunny skies, breezy on the Pacific seas calm.
LOCATION: Starting out at Jaime Bank, Los Arcos 8 miles, Pozo de Cota, Golden Gate, then switching to 95 spot, 11.50 spot Los Frailes….basically those wanting marlin went to the Sea of Cortez, those after dorado the Pacific.
AVERAGE WATE TEMP: 72 F
BEST LURES: Live bait.
