Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT
JULY 20th THROUGH JULY 26th, 2007
OVERALL SUCCESS RATE: 87%
BILLFISH: This week we had a Billfish success rate of 70%.
We had some really nice catches this week all of them with live bait. First day of the week Bill Collector released four striped marlin at Destiladeras for Matt Rainwater from CA. On the 21st, Halcon released four striped marlin for Scott Shier and Craig Roberts from Ca., Andrea released three stripeys and a pacific sailfish for Kevin McNamara from California, Rebecca released 4 stripeys for Travis Jacobson, Alex Johnson and Ryan & James Harris from California, Tracy Ann released three for Richard and Russ Beverly from AL, and Bill Collector released another three again for Matt Rainwater and friends. Best marlin fishing day of the week was definitely the 22nd, when Andrea released 5 striped marlin for Jay Clark from AZ and Monty Dietrich from CO, Adriana also released 5 stripeys for Bob and Jamie Weyer from Utah, and the highlight of the week, Bill Collector releasing also 5 stripeys again for Mr. Matt Rainwater and friends, making a total of 12 released striped marlin for Mr. Rainwater’s party. After this, fishing started to get a little slow for marlin, as the moon grew in size, with most of the boats catching one or two; some decided to go for small game like dorado and tuna. We had one day of rain (which we don’t have very often) which lasted like 2 hours and the day after that the water was a bit green but warm so we had some double hookups. Last week we had the visit of our good friend Johnny Powers and his friends Randy Alexander, Rudi Reinecke and Eric Huff from Dallas, TX., they released 7 striped marlin aboard the Bill Collector. We also had our friend Chic McSherry and his sons Scott and Kemie from Stirling, Scotland, they released two striped marlin and landed 8 yellowfin tuna and a 20 lbs dorado aboard the Rebecca.
A total of 77 billfish were caught and 73 were released.
OTHER SPECIES: We saw some improvement on tuna fishing with 30% of the charters coming back with this fish. There were some really nice catches like La Brisa on the 20th, catching a total of 23 yellowfin tuna between 18-20 lbs, most of them were released, then on the 23rd, Bill Collector caught 19 yellowfin for Mr. Mark Chiavetta. Dorado success rate was also at 30%, however, most of the boats only caught a single fish. Inshore fishing has been mostly for tuna and dorado, we didn’t see any snappers or rooster this week.
WATER TEMPERATURE: 74-75 on the Sea of Cortez at Gordo Banks and Destiladeras, 78F on the Pacific side at Jaime Banks.
LOCATION: Jaime Banks, Destiladeras, straight out from Sta. Maria Bay.
BEST LURES: Live Bait
Based on the catches of Pisces Fleet, by Jorge Narro in Tracy’s absence.
