Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

Overall Catch Success Rate 80%
BILLFISH: We go back to normal after the Stars & Stripes Tournament frenzy, Marlin was not the top catch this week failing to be as consistent as we would like, this is not to say that they are not in the area, but are reluctant to bite, which could be attributed to the full moon and some crazy weather. But with the moon getting smaller and the weather getting really hot, we should see some great fishing shaping up.
We had some good catches even with the full moon, like C-Rod on July 5th, caught 2 striped marlin for Dean Kim from Texas and Hanna and Ian Walsh from Cabo San Lucas. The Tracy Ann released a Sailfish on July 7th for Andy Smith from London, UK, also landed a 50 lbs Dorado and two yellow fin tuna for him and his friend Gerard Knowles also from London.
Marlin was definitely not the number one catch this week however we have reports from most of the boats watching over 15 marlin, casting bait, hitting them in the head with the bait, but they are simply not interested, with the full moon they can see better in the dark and they have all night to hunt for bait, so by the time the boats get there, the marlin are already full. A total of 13 striped marlin and one Sailfish were caught, all but to stripeys were released.
OTHER SPECIES: Tuna was the number one catch this week with over 46% of the boats catching this specie. We caught also many skipjacks and a few roosterfish, the Cabolero caught two dorados and a very nice 40lbs wahoo on July 2nd for Robert Gallardo from Sherman, TX, the Tracy Ann caught eight yellow fin tuna between 15 to 20 lbs for Andy Smith and friends on July 5th, Andrea landed nine tunas for Joe Hunt, Marot Thomas, Casey Adams and Tim Black from Sacramento CA, but the number one boat this week was La Brisa with eight yellow fin tuna and five dorados between 10 to 40 lbs for Nicholas, Lori, Darwin & Julian Zavadil and Lily and Leila Liegner from San Diego, CA, and let me tell you, the ladies were not even sure if they wanted to go out, and it turned out they caught more fish than the guys.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Sunny days in Cabo, really hot, weather temperature was between 97 to 102F. Seas were calm with a little bit of breeze in the afternoons.
LOCATION: Between 16 to 35 miles from Cerro Colorado, Destiladeras, Old Lighthouse.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 75 - 84 F
BEST LURES: Live bait, blue/white, petrolero, guacamayo, cedar plugs.
Based on the catches of Pisces by Jorge Narro in Tracy's absence.
Here is Ryder Pratt from Houston, TX, showing off his sailfish, released aboard the Rebecca.
