Cabo San Lucas - Saltwater Fishing Report

Overall Catch Success Rate 100%
Billfish: Fishing continues to be excellent in Cabo though we did not have the outlandish numbers of marlin as in previous weeks. Nevertheless our anglers still caught a whopping two hundred and eighty (280) stripers this week, which translates into a catch success rate of 82% for this species. More anglers asked for a mix of fish this week, so instead of concentrating solely on marlin they tried for dorado and tuna too. Every single boat out caught something and some catches were outstanding. Johnny Mack Powers, from Rockwall, Texas was our angler of the week. Fishing alone aboard "Bill Collector" on November 29th, Johnny did well to release 24 striped marlin, and then followed up with another 22 on December 2nd….his arms must be like his home town, like rock walls. Other great catches were 16 striped marlin released aboard "C Rod" plus two tuna for the Pascal family from Philadelphia on November 28th and 14 marlin for Daniel Ryan and friends from New York aboard "Rebecca" on December 1st, following up the next day with an additional 11 fish on the same boat. Catches averaged four to six marlin per boat per day. The action is still at Golden Gate with live bait the best option for a hook up. Of the 280 marlin caught, all but three were released; those brought in averaged 130 lbs.
OTHER SPECIES: Dorado catches are on the climb with 42% of charters catching between one and eighteen fish in the 15 to 30 lb class. The majority were caught on the outer edge of the Golden Gate. Top boat for dorado was "La Brisa" for Ann and Gio Taylor from Lindale, Texas. Tuna catches were slow with just a few caught this week, though we did have one 70 lb fish caught by Chris Nichols who booked a panga with us out of San Jose; caught on a dead sardine. "Andrea" had a 70 lb mako shark as well as two marlin released by Michael, Brian and Kevin Hom from Bellevue, Washington. There were a few small wahoo and when I say small I mean small 10-20 lbs.
LOCATION: Golden Gate
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Clear, mostly sunny skies, calm seas.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 80 F
BEST LURES: Live bait.
