Shore Thing At Its Best

Capt. Matt Tusa

Bay St. Louis - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have only had one day off since the 9th, and my body is starting to feel the pain. I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weekend. The weather was perfect for a day on the water.

Friday I had the pleasure of fishing with K.C. and the Forshag Band. Being old salts from the Big Easy, they were well seasoned in the art of trout fishing. We fished hard all morning catching a lot more fish than we kept. K.C. had the big trout of the day coming in a little over 3lbs. The boys were done, so we called it a little before noon with 25 trout and 2 reds.

Saturday I had three doctors from Gulfport who were one of the easiest groups I have ever had. We made it to the first spot to find very little bait and nothing but spanish and little trout. After two hours of grinding it out I called it quits and went in search of something better. That we did, we had one good rally and put a few in the box. Hit a school of bonus bulls and called it a day. We went home with 32 trout, 1 red, and we released a couple bulls and 1 big nasty drum. I hope to see these guys again.

Sunday I had Tom Wissing and his Dad. We started out with high hopes for the morning. After stories of Capt. Kyle and Sonny's awesome trip from the day before, Speckled Trout were on the brain. The morning bite just did not happened like we had hoped. My crew and I just had to work a little harder. We bumped around the marsh all day catching a few here and there. Found two good schools of reds, but most were bulls and too big for the box. We managed to make it back to the dock with 30 speckled trout and 5 out of 12 reds we caught.
