Bay St. Louis - Saltwater Fishing Report
The last couple of days have been something short of amazing! The Shore Thing boys have been catching fish and putting smiles on faces! All the boats have been bringing in great boxes of fish, and a variety at that.
Yesterday I had the Eric Vargas crew. His boys and their uncle Mike got busy cranking in fish after fish. Big spanish mackerel and even bigger trout were hitting the decks one after the other. The highlight of the trip was actually sight casting to big speckled trout. With every trout reeled in two or three more were following the one on the hook, and somebody would be waiting to pitch the bait. We caught several fish this way, which is something you may never see or be able to do in your lifetime. The boys and I boxed 43 fat speckled trout and even caught 2 pompano in the marsh which is rare, and 1 red. These guys all ready have another trip booked at the end of the month.
I had an opening today, and after the last few days I had to get Don Smith on some of this action. Don is one of my regular gluttons, and I knew he wouldn't want to miss this bite. Don brought his friend Kevin, who had never been fishing. I think I spoiled him, I hope he doesn't think its always like that! We instantly went to whacking and stacking EVERYTHING! One thing I have learned about Don is he doesn't discriminate. He will kill and eat every fish with in the limits. Kevin and Don kept me busy netting fish until the very end. We ended the day with 50 trout that filled up five gallon bags, if that tells you the size, 3 mackerel, 12 sheepshead, 3 reds, 1 flounder, and 1 pompano. This was a day to remember!
