Beautiful Day Wrong Bait.

Capt. Charles Damiens
July 7, 2008
Horn Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Out to FH 10 at Horn Island, man what a beautiful day. Sunny, breezy, hot, but not a scorcher. I had the pleasure of fishing yet again with Carolyn and Betty from Diamondhead, MS. The day started out great as stated with one small exception. I was completely unable to acquire like croaker. This is a must at this reef actually it is a requirement. But with a live bait well full of live shrimp, the ladies wanted to go anyway.

It is painful to watch a boat 200 yards away pulling in a half dozen gator trout in 2 hours on live croaker, while all you have is live shrimp. But Carolyn and Betty had a blast. Betty had the hot hands for the day landing some very large white trout in the 16-20 inch range. There were many head shaking battles lost yards from the boat, as well as some ladyfish and blue fish acrobatics. One notable run nearly spooled Carolyn's reel leaving her feeling as though she had "Hooked on to a passing train".

Well all good things must come to an end. And when the "Men in the Gray Suits" showed up the bite was off for everyone. Betty managed to land a small one and they took a moment to admired the little creature then send him on his way.

All in all a nice mess of very large White Trout went to stay in the "Ice Chest Hotel".

Since this morning "2" new live croaker resources have been acquired. Won't make that mistake again!

Horn Island Fishing Forecast:

FH 10 will be the place to be for the July full moon on the 16th - 22nd. Don't miss this opportunity.
