Biloxi Mississippi's Bays Deliver Huge Black Drum & More!

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
November 16, 2008
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well it's good to get back from a vacation in Nashville, TN and get back into the fishing mode once again.

Guess what! Didn't miss a lick and was right back into hauling them in, and just a few minutes from the launch at that.

Ran a double header on Friday, and my morning clients were Ronnie and Sue Buise from Georgia. These were more comeback clients, and they have a knack for catching fish.

Started out the morning with live shrimp and popping corks, and they hammered the white trout and ground mullet, over 80 in all. Plus, they added 3 really nice speckled trout to the mix too.

Went back into the Back Bay of Biloxi, and there the bite on black drum and sheepshead turned on. Ronnie and Sue lost a couple of giant fish, but before the action was over they boxed 14 black drum and a nice sheepshead.

Final tally: 80 plus white trout and ground mullet, 3 nice speckled trout, 14 black drum, and 1 sheepshead. I'll take that on any morning outing! They had so much fun they booked me on the following Sunday.

On the afternoon trip my clients were Felo Guerra, Cullum Wallace, and Brandan Wallace of Texas. Didn't have much time, but we hit the drum hole first, and right off the bat Cullum landed a fish pushing 40-pounds, and a few more smaller fish were boxed.

They wanted to try the popping corks for a bit, and although the bite was slow they boxed 20 or so before we ran back into the bay.

There, Felo hooked into a monster, and landed another fish pushing 40-pounds. What a blast on light tackle! And a challenge at that! A couple of big white trout and ground mullet were caught there too, and in all they caught about 12 black drum including a couple of big fish released.

As usual, all of these clients were a hoot to fish with, and made my job quite enjoyable.

Today, well, it was back out with Ronnie and Sue, and Ronnie wanted to land one of the giant drum he lost on Friday. But first it was back to white trout and ground mullet on popping corks, and they boxed 20 or so. The tide was extremely low, and the bite was slow in the morning.

However, back at the drum hole the action turned on, 3 big sheepshead, and 6 black drum were landed on the light tackle. Ronnie landed two giant fish on this day, and he was thrilled.

Get this, he hooked into a fish so big that it jerked the rod out of his hands, and he then dove in after, and retrieved the rod while he was out of sight.

Came up with the fish on, it was pulling him under, but luckly the line broke, and I managed to pull him back into the boat. Yes, he dove into that cold water after the rod and reel! Ronnie, you're the man!

Well folks, on TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS there is always an adventure waiting to happen, but I wouldn't suggest going to Ronnie's extreme to entertain. Ronnie is one of my favorite clients, and you can see why.

Bottom line, you get on the boat and we'll catch some fish and have fun. Go swimming? I wouldn't suggest it in November! And if you want a shot at a giant black drum now is the time!
