Opening day was very good weather an some pretty good fishing. Went over to the wrecks behind Horn Island where we usually run the shorter snapper trip(especially early cause the cobia generally in that area).

We left out around 6am and was back at Horn Island for a lil swim and cool down by 11:30. We had a limit of red snapper(fairly nice) lost some of the bigger ones in the wreck, boy you just got to be able to whoop them quick or they will get ya!

We also caught a very nice gag grouper a nice cobia, few sharks and 1 really large hammerhead that wore out everyone on the boat I believe. Think the girls put it on the boys thou.

Had a crew from Arkansas that might not have known what they were in for.But really had a blast!

When she hooked the first snapper she couldn't do nothing, kept asking me if he would get tired or quit pulling."I don't think so pull up reel down" I said. She did not think she could do it so I suggested she let her 9yr old son try. Got the best of him so they tag teamed!! One pulled on the rod while the other reeled. That team work for the smaller snapper but the bigger snapper I had to get them half way up to make it easier.
While they were fighting the snapper 2 nice cobia showed up. So I grabbed a live croaker and BOOM it was on!
Gramps you want this one? "Oh my God what do I do"? Well try to keep constant bend in your rod and just reel when you can. Worked like a charm, about 15 min. I gaffed and boated him.
Gramps said her heart ain't beat like that in 30 years! GOOD JOB TEAM!!

Dodged thunderstorms today with crew from Oklahoma. Had about 30 whitetrout,4 eels,4 stingrays,3 gafftops,1 small speck on a 4 hour light tackle trip.
