Big Sheepshead & Black Drum Bend Rods In Biloxi, MS!

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
November 8, 2009
Mississippi Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Saturday was another fun day of fishing aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, and my return clients Patrick and Perry Calhoun from Flowood, MS had a ball fighting the sheepshead and black drum in the Back Bay of Biloxi.

With windy conditions at hand we opted to fish close by the launch, but there were plenty of fish close by eager to bend those St. Croix Rods.

Armed with live shrimp, 1/0 Gamakatsu Nautilus Circle Hooks, a 1-ounce weight, and 25-pound-test Seaguar Fluorocarbon leader material it was game on from the beginning.

At first the sheepshead were somewhat hard to hook, and plenty of live shrimp were being bit in half or jerked off the hook. However, after a while they got the hook setting down, and soon the big hard-fighting sheepshead were coming into the boat.

After the sheepshead bite died down a bit, well, it was time to go after the black drum. Fishing near the mouth of the Back Bay of Biloxi the fishing for drum was exciting too, and Perry had the time of here life reeling in 3 of the 4 biggest fish.

The biggest fish were in the 7 to 8-pound range, and Perry had sore hands after battling 3 of the hard pulling fish in a row. Although it was windy, fishing in the confines of the bay made for an exciting and relaxing half-a-day outing for this husband and wife duo.

Looks like we have a hurricane in the gulf that may affect us around Tuesday, but remember, fishing after hurricanes can often lead to top-notch out of the ordinary fishing.

Until this storm passes we'll batten down the hatches and be ready to ride it out, but will be ready to get back on the water just as soon as the seas subside.

Take care everyone, keep it safe out there, and good fishing!

Regards and many thanks to all,
