Branson: The lower end of the lake continues to be tough with the exception of the upper end of Long Creek, Branson fishing guides have been struggling in the clearer water due to the continuing shad kill. The bite up Long Creek has been the best you can find on the lower end. A combination of jerkbaits and jigs are your best bet; look for steeper banks and points on channel swings in the creek arms to be the most productive. SPRO Mc Stick in blue bandit or Megabass 110's in Tennessee shad have been the ticket. Jewel pro spider jigs in PB&J or brown purple flash with either a Jewel finesse craw or UV beaver have been your best bet, look for large rock on creek channels broken up with gravel to be the best locations.

Kimberling City: The bite is very tough in the Kimberling City area just like in Branson. Fishing guides have been stymied by the amount of dead and dying shad and until the water warms this portion of the lake will be tough. A few fish have been caught on SPRO stickbaits around deeper secondary points, look for areas toward the backs of creeks where you find fewer dead shad and concentrate on the last couple of points near the main channel.

James River: The James River is tough; one or two bites a day has been the norm as the shad kill has really effected this area. Branson fishing guides have been working both deep and shallow and even when fish are eating shad it is hard to compete with the real thing. A few fish have been taken on Jewel spider jigs in the back of creek arms on the last channel swing but, if you are planning on fishing before the weather breaks look for another area of the lake.

White River: The lower to mid White River has been as tough as Kimberling, the James and Branson, fishing guides have done well by running up above Shell Knob and using a variety of baits. In the back of larger creek arms you will find much warmer water and a better bite on Jewel jigs and Stickbaits, midway back in the same creeks you will can catch a few 15' – 25' deep on XPS single tail grubs fished close to tree tops and other cover on a ¼ oz. head. There is an Umbrella rig bite as well in these areas, most of the fish are suspended so you will want to count the bait down to around 15' before beginning a retrieve.
