Jefferson River fishing very good

Jefferson River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Hi everyone,
I just had a 3 day trip with a great bunch of guys from upstate NY. They booked their trip via this website, and took advantage of our Jefferson River July Special. ($175 per day, Guide Service for 2 anglers!!)
The 1st day, ( July 10th) we basically wade fished some great area's that I know of. The water was still a little high, but it was tea colored, and starting to clear. Had about 3 ft of visibility when we started fishing. The river was dropping, and clearing by the hour. Caught plenty of fish, a mix of Browns and Bows. Chris caught a very nice 3 plus pound Brown for the biggest fish of the day. We were using light tackle spinners and flies. The Jeff braids in many locations, and fishing off of some of the islands can be very productive. ( some very nice runs occur where the river braids) The next day, we took shifts on the driftboat, and I floated the guys to some more good places. We caught some nice fish, although not as many as the previous day. I can't remember who caught the biggest fish that day, (the 11th) but some nice fish were caught and released.

After the guys took the weekend off, Jack and Pete came back on Monday the 14th for an all day float. I took them on one of the best floats that I know. The moon was changing to full, so the bite was not as good as it had been, but we still did well, and about 11 am or so, Jack hooked a big hook jawed male brown that gave him a good fight. We finally slipped the net around the fish, and took some pics before the release. I will get them up on this site as soon as Jack emails them to me. The fish was 4 lbs, maybe a hair more, and the colors were awesome! Hope the pics do it justice.
The general bite always seems to slow down during a full moon period, but it seems that you do better on the bigger Trout.
Anyway, I would like to thank Jack for setting the trip up, and thank all the guys, Jack, Chris, Nick, and Pete for the business. I had a great time with you guys, and look forward to seeing you again the next time you come out. These guys were all very experienced anglers, and great company! It was my privilege to be their Guide on the Jeff
They all bought copies of my book, and I hope they enjoy it. (Thanks again you guys)

Come on out, the Jeff is fishing well.

Jefferson River Fishing Forecast:

Jeffs goood, we are still waiting on the Gallatin. It should be some great fishing after high water finally is over. Same with the Yellowstone. We had high water very late this year.

I have a trip on the Jeff in a couple of days. The bite may be a little slow because of the full moon, but I hope to do well on some bigger fish. The river is in perfect shape.

Target Species:

Trout
