San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Hello Every-one,
The river is flowing around 480cfs. The water is off-colored and clarity is around 2-3 feet. The river is fishing good to great. The hot ticket has been red or orange larva's #22-18. Bunny Leech patterns, trailing a larva pattern. Egg patterns are working Orange, peach or apricot. Gray bodied, black head #22-24 midge pupa's and #18-22 olive,or gray larva. The beatis hatch is still going on good from T-hole down. Heads still rising in Three Island run down to the top of Death Row.
The fish are in the deep slow runs where the water temps are more stable. With the very cold nights the shallow water gets colder then the deep water, fish don't like colder temperatures, so they move into the slow deep runs where the water is warmer. The fish will move to the shallows as the sun warms the water late am into the afternoon. The weather has been stormy and cold this last week and the next couple of days then it is going to start warming up. The highs have been in the mid to upper 20's and the lows in the 0-10 degree range. The current forecast is snow tonight, and tomorrow. After that weather will improve with the daytime temps warming up into the upper 30's into the low 40's. If you can endure the weather the fishing is worth it.
