High Water Run off Flow?

Capt. Mark Nesbit
May 7, 2010
San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report

As of now, I have not received from the B.O.R. a official notice about the upcoming predicted river flows. The meeting was over two weeks ago. The rumor I have heard is that the river will stay at the current flow level of around 470-500 cfs until later in the summer as water demands down river increase and the run-off subsides. At that time the flows will be adjusted accordingly. I will post the official notice at my web site, from the B.O.R. as soon as I receive it, if there is a change. www.blueskyflyfishing.com
The river is flowing around 460-470 cfs. Water is off-colored {milky-snow melt} and really chunky with moss. The upper areas, Old catch and release, cable hole and upper flats area all fishing good with #20-22 cream, olive or gray larva's. #24-26 Miracle midge working. Some fish rising to midge clusters if conditions permit. #20-22 gray bodied/black ribbed midge pupa's and emergers have been working for me.
#22-24 Red larva's, red hots working early am.
The braids and the main channel all fishing fair to good. Some sight fishing in the right locations. The Kiddy hole is full of hungry little trout with some big cruisers hanging out to make things interesting.
Texas Hole to the gravel pit. The beatis hatch has started in the Texas Hole. The nymphs are crawling around 9-10:00 am with the emergence starting around 10:30-11;00 am. #20 Dark bodied pheasant tails, fluff beatis, and Wd-40's all has been working for me. Chocolate or gray RS2 foam or cdc wing emerger's working during the hatch. #20-22 gray bodied/blk ribbed big mac's and midge pupa's, emerger's have been the midge of choice for me in the am. #24-26 Gray scintilla bubble midge also getting bit good. Some #20 gray-white scuds in their belly's.
From Simon Canyon to the take-out, {Gravel pit} has been fishing good in the pm if the wind isn't up. Above patterns have all been working for me.
I would like to thank all that follow my fishing reports and stories. This is Blue Sky Flyfishing Guide Service 10th anniversary on the San Juan River. Thank's again to all my past , present, and future clients for your business and memories. Looking forward to the next decade.
Tight Line's to All!
