San Juan River - Freshwater Fishing Report
Hello everyone, and Happy Mother's Day to all of you Mama's out there.
The river is flowing at around 300cfs as of today. Water clarity is getting better again due to warmer nighttime temps. The water flows have been changing a lot due to the way the weather is affecting the snow pack melt off. When the Animas is flowing enough the B.O.R. cuts the water back on the Juan. If the Animas does not flow enough They will raise the flows. It has been a weekly thing as of late.
The good news is that the river is fishing good with a lot of nice big browns being caught. There will be no high water flows this year.
The upper areas have been fishing good using small black #24-26 black Krystal flash midges, black zebra midges and gray bodied, black headed.
The braids has been on fire using above patterns and #20-22 red larva's and red hots.
The Texas Hole down to Death Row has been good fishing for me. I've been using a #20-22 red hot or larva to a # 20 chocolate foam wings. Mark's Magic midge gets the line tight plenty. #18-20 gray and black big macs.
From Simon Canyon down has been good using above patterns and #20-22 gray parachute Adams, or Sparkle duns.
Navajo Lake is fishing good for Bass and crappie. The carp are on the Crunch.
Tight Lines To All.
